Black Desert

Black Desert

Any new player races?
So one thing that drove me away from this game was the fact I am stuck playing as a type of human. Yes I know there are Giants and Elves but honestly let not kid our selves. They are humans with minor tweaks. Giants are just tall humans. Elves are just knife ear humans.

Wish a game world full of hundreds of races. The devs went with the bare bones for races. Specially with elves in giants class selection being pretty weak. They might as well just remove the option to play as a different race and just say. "Everyone is human."

This is not a game for everybody so If u dont like it good for u there are tons of other games out there but if ur going to be picky about races then good luck ever finding a mmorpg that will last a long time
Well they decided at the beginning to start with a few and listened to what the player wanted. They've progressed with the company's success in mind along with players opinions,..so. Guess you might be in the minority. Hope you find a game you like.

Stand away then and play what you like. We don't need furrs and tails in this game. 17 classes with different playstyles are enough to give a headache in pvp.

Maybe I am talking about race because this is a pvp game. One of the things you need to know how to quickly Identify what might kill you. Problems is with this. If you spot a player fall away and everyone looks the bloody same. Then it hard to tell if you should risk a fight or run away.

If funny you would bring up the pvp. Honestly if you have your draw distance maxed out and you spot a player many meters away. Can you truely tell me from just a basic look on what the class is? Do you not think I have a motive behind my question? Yes it a headache because humans have humans having like 90% of the classes. You have to basicly get close into range to inspect gender/weapon.

How much less of a headache would it be if they had not put so many classes on humans. Added in more then 3 races at the launch. So you can spot a race and be like. "oh I know that race. It has this class I need to worry about. From what it looks like. That might be the class that wrecks me."

Nope we get humans being this race with pretty much all the tools under the sun. Making you go. "hmmmmm well that might be a human over on top of that hill. That might be an elf. Clearly not a giant."

Thank you for being a nice person. I hope you enjoy your game. I will stick to my other pvp games. Where I can tell who I am dealing with just by looking at them. Not having to sit there trying to guess what I might be fighting.

...I actually agree with the OP? I was playing Tera on my PS4 earlier today, and someone brought up this game, and I looked it up hoping it might have more race options than what I was expecting, but no. Just humans, pointy eared humans, large humans, tiny humans, and possibly less tiny humans soon. What bothers me the most is that there are some cool races within that universe that you can't play as. I would love to play as one of the anthro races. People say it's all about relatability, but the truth is that I genuinely do not relate to human characters. ...at all. Like, I don't even want to get into it.

If anything, it's nice that there are some cool pets and you can have an elephant as a mount, which is badass, but part of the reason I like Tera and can even forgive a lot of its flaws is because of the Popori and Aman males adding some uniqueness to the races. I can play as a chunky bunny to escape from reality for a bit, and escape from my own species when humans become frustrating. As long as my character is human, I can't really do that. And honestly, I care more about escapism then relatability in a video game.

I just want to say that it's nice to see someone else who feels similarly. I'm hoping that one day the creators of this game do add an anthro race. Until then, I'm not interested.

every game has "human-like" races, there are no exceptions. some have giant humans, some have small humans, some have scaly humans with long chins, others have featherly humans with a beak, some have furry humans with cat whiskers... its all human like.

a body, 2 arms, 2 legs, and a head to put a helmet on.

Hmm a necro.

How about a race with a sort of octopus head and bat or dragon wings on it's back?

To me, an anthropomorphic race is more than just a human with an animal head. They are a Fantastical representation of an animal I happen to like. They are a potential life form that evolved to compete or live alongside humans rather than humans themselves. We call them humans because there's nothing else to compare them to to our knowledge. We've only been to a couple planets in our solar system, so we have no idea how human like life on other planets is.

If done right, anthropomorphic races can be interesting as well as look badass. If you give them their own societies and own abilities that relate to their animals, or even just different societies and abilities in general, they can be way more interesting than just slapping cat ears on a human and calling it a day. Even without all that, I always just see them as animals with human-like capabilities rather than just humans with animal heads.

Also, I just flat out relate to and sympathize with animals more.

i get what you are saying, but ultimately every mmo race remains human-like. until we get something truly special that deviates from the usual bipedal, 2 arms, body and head skeleton, everything race remains fundamentally just windowdressing.

lotro has really animalistic races, albeit only in its pvmp mode. there you can play the wargs and spiders from the game.

everything else remains just humans with a different skin or a hunchback.

I'm fine with them being human like by Design as long as they don't look like humans. Even if they have similar designs, different animals have different things to offer visually. It doesn't matter how many different human species you make, they never really offer anything different aesthetically, especially in the face. For me, the face is the most important part of a character's design.

In addition, having all your good guy races look just like humans comes off as incredibly shallow. I'll admit that I would like to see some races that deviate even further from humans, but anthros are good enough for me. (Also, please don't tell me you're one of those "anthros are just humans, but elves.and kemonomimis are totally different" kind of people.) And even if it is just window dressing, so what? Maybe I just want a character that looks cool. Maybe I want that because that makes the character more fun to play with. Even if an anthropomorphic animal is still fundamentally human, their design still has things to offer that I can't get from a human that makes them more appealing. Again, that's good enough for me.

I know that I am talking about visuals, and while I will honestly say that I do not follow the looks are superficial philosophy, that is far from the only reason that I do not like playing as straight up humans. Let's just say that I have a personal reasons that relate to things I've already said. But if it makes any sense, humans are something I actually try to escape from in video games. I can ignore human like qualities, but I cannot ignore humans themselves.
