How's the Ranger class?

I am looking to get into BDO for the first time, and I usually pick bow/arrow type classes. Is the ranger or whatever any good? Worth playing as newcomer?

The Ranger is a Mobile with good burst, has a good awaken giving Ranger dual daggers with wind element. The early levels and the gear grind will be a bit slow on her but she is very good

Ranger is one of the worst Classes right now...1vs1 are okay..large scale/small scale only good with high Ap...For new Player the class isnt that great...cuz the recent Stamina changes.The Bow is currently not that great so ur forced to Awake Weapon because most skills dont need Stamina...Most People recommend Wizard/Witch as a new Player...ez to play and super good in grinding...if u ask most Ranger Player or People with Game knowledge they will tell u the same...its my opinion so....in the end play what u enjoy the most cuz u will play the class A LOT :)

What about PvE stuff? I prefer exploring and grinding at my own pace over PvP.

if you want to play pve i do not recommend archer, she is such a mana leecher and does no dmg and grinding will take forever

oh okay. what are some easy DPS then? im guessing mage as the other guy above said?

Ranger was 1 of the BEST grinder before Stamina Changes...and there still decent

Aside from being weak early on, my suggestion would be test ranger for a few levels to see if it fits

Mystic/Striker;Musa and Dark Knight are also great at grinding

Yes, they can and will. It is open world PVP, you leave a city to grind exp or loot and you risk being ganked. Fools will tell you "Oh, but there are penalties for doing that" and they are technically correct, but quite a few players pride themselves on being "Perma-Red". Do your research thoroughly my friend.

Edit - Also, you can't always "avoid it", and many times you won't even see it coming. Not until you've invested over a year of your life will you stand a chance against the over-geared players who have been playing for months before you. Furthermore, they actually sell outfits in the game that HIDE the players name so it is even harder for you to spot them coming at you, for real money. Sounds pretty shady eh? PVP ftw bro.

I just got to 56 the other day and am half way to 57 and have not once been attacked by another player even in the highly contested farming/leveling areas.

Play ranger and can one burst people 30 GS higher than me...and the combo I use is fairly simple. Don't know if it's just something rangers don't know but I hear all this hooblah about Rangers being in the worst spot right now, but I think they are pretty fairly ranked.

Problem I think about the BDO community is that you can never ask them "What's good right now" without everyone bashing their OWN class saying how ♥♥♥♥ it is. No one will openly admit what/when it is OP, and always demand buffs to their class because they can't accept the fact that when they lose a fight it's cause their skill/gear build sucks.

I highly recommend you pick a class YOU like to play.

That being said...

PvE-wise, yea we got hit by a stamina nerf but so did most other classes (especially valk), we were once near, if not first, place in terms of grind speed for PvE, now we are just slightly lower...

New player - the class is pretty forgiving. It's your simple burst dps class, nothing new. Compared to Valk/Warrior or the less mobile classes it's by far easier and faster to gear/grind with.
