Potential new player; question regarding PvP.
I'm reading reviews here and a lot of them say that PvP is very inaccessible unless you grind for hours upon hours for the best gear, or pay for things.

I enjoy PvE but for a game to keep me interested long-term it needs good PvP. Are these reviews true?

from what ive seen as of the 7 hours played, someone asked me to "duel" so yeah, i think its got a pretty good pvp :D
the combat skills within the game are intense and really nice to play, takes some getting used too as well. since i havent played an mmo since TERA and that was over a year ago i seem to found that BDO has beautiful scenery and even better combat..
i suggest playing the game more and going for PVP when ready! :D

pvp becomes available at level 50, your world becomes open world PvP then so your only safe at the safezones, duels are a bit different you can duel against eachother, most cities also have a arena where its free for all but without consequences.

once you reach level 50 people can flag you and they will be able to hit u but they receive a -50K karma reduction upon first hit, once your hit you can kill the one who flagged u without consequences, if he manages to kill u he will lose another 200k karma making him getting near the mid line of karma, if its already in the - he will be able to lose crystals upon death or in valencia he is considered rogue and goes to jail

pvp is like u said inaccesible unless u grind ur way to 50 (use the olvia server and the daily extra exp boosts and u will be level 50 within the same day, it gets harder to level from 50-56 and from 56-60 u may get in most areas when killing just 0.01% exp or something)

nonetheless u can get good gear from the marketplace or grind like hell just like u said, on the other hand u can always transfer your armour from character to character so u only need to buy 1 set of armour and for every char a weapon this reduces the costs of your characters drasticly

This still concerns me if I'm just going to be stomped in PvP unless I have the optimal gear through grinding. Not that people shouldn't want the best gear but it just reminds me of some "gearscore" MMOs in which skill is barely a factor and if I want to participate in PvP I'm forced to grind or spend money.

Grinding is apart of most MMO's, if you have the time to play it, reaching level 50 could be done within a few weeks.. unless you're a no lifer maybe even a few days xD

True, but what I meant was that even when reaching level 50 and trying PvP it sounds like I wont be viable unless I put even more time into getting the gear. So essentially just to play PvP and be viable the game requires an enormous time commitment.

On the other hand I do like PvE and it sounds like this game has a lot to offer.

If you look up a quick guide or have someone help you, you can get to level 50 in 2 hours max on Olivia. PVP is the "endgame" of BDO. It's not the type of PVP you can just jump into and expect to win like most games these days. Gear is more important than level and in a lot of cases, class and skill and one of the ways to get it is through grinding however there are other ways too such as lifeskills a lot of which can be done AFK.

Watching videos about BDO's combat does not do it justice. The combat has a great feel to it and flows well. It's fast paced and rewarding. In saying that some of the classes are very complicated and take a lot of practice. This also means that there are major differences in player skill. I'm over 1k hours in, level 59 with mid tier gear and I still find myself having to run from most fights. If you are after "Balanced" PVP, this isn't your game. If you are after PVP where you have to earn your wins through hard work, perserverence and luck (You can't p2w gear), then BDO PVP is for you.

just quick question, can you switch from olvia?

Olivia are the growth (Bonus EXP) servers for new and returning players. A new player can spend 30 days after their first login on there. To my knowledge returning players (Players who have been inactive for 30 days) can spend 30 days on there too. While in this growth period players are free to change to any other server and back however there is a 15 minute cooldown for doing so.

You don't have to spend money and the only thing in the money shop that might help is an outfit that will hide your name so you can ambush other players for pvp but I rarely run into other players who do that but then I've only been around lvl 56 on several characters and even then if they decide to attack me I just keep going back and karma bombing them so they lose lot's of karma and have issues. In order to go to lvl 50 and enable world pvp you have to do a quest so if you don't want it to be on you don't have to but you won't be able to continue past lvl 49.
there hits a point in gear where its 1 shot or get 1 shot and its not hard to get to that level of gear. the "grind" doesnt take that long when you afk fish and gather plants and trees, you'll eventually get overwhelm your bank and inventory with upgrade materials after casually playing for a couple weeks.

So gearing outweighs skill huh... being a new player that sounds pretty lame.. Are stats at least bolstered/balanced in large-scale PvP?

You have to get a lot of silver coins if you want to get a good gears for PVP. But you can made a lot of activities like grinding, fishing, training hourses, trading etc. that you can get those silver coins. If you have the time to do that then go for it. beleive me you never want to play other game. :steamhappy:
