Being killed in PvP does not make you lose XP or gems unless you are negative karma (meaning you've been killing players yourself.) Only PvE deaths will make you lose XP and gems.
The worst that happens is that your durability will go down and you need to go to the blacksmith and repair with silver which is cheap.
The other player that attacks you loses karma and has more at risk than you do. Specially if there's a large gear difference.
And speaking of Karma, how do I raise it? If low karma is an issue, then I may have a problem because I went a bit kill-happy on the protesters in Calpheon City(I wanted their juicy "Knowledge"!! Stop judging me!!!) and from what you're telling me the Karma that cost me is gonna make my PVP deaths even more troublesome.
Once you hit 50 you have an option to hit ALT+C and you're able to attack as long as you do that. You don't really get warned but most players from my experience will just give you a little 'tap' to warn you. (Or in chat they'll say 'spot taken'). It's also just recommended to not go into higher level areas if you don't have the gear for it.
To raise your karma you literally just need to go and grind mobs.
Overall you'll be fine as long as you don't bother people who are grinding in certain spots. Most of the times I got PK'd was from me being dumb and trying to flag on people 5+ levels above me.
Not really my preferred playstyle. Spending forever in a certain area killing the same mobs repeatedly is boring as hell to me.
But if I need to complete a quest, or if I want to go mano-a-mano with RNGesus for that pesky missing 'knowledge', and someone has "claimed" the area I gotta worry about them going uber-♥♥♥♥ on me?
Each mob area has different "rotation" grind spots. Literally all you need to do is play more and you'll get to understanding the game.
Also most people claim a spot when running their daily 1 hour 200% boost. There's also several channels you can hop across until you find an open spot. You're making it seem harder than it actually is.
Thanks. I think i'll go for it but i'm waiting a while to see how the journey beyond 50 feels before I risk pumping anymore cash into this lol.
My worst concerns are eased at least, thanks again :)
Well That happened to me once, someone said "spot taken" so I was leaving and someone else can and smashed me along mobs.......... so I came back with my main characters and saw that it was a guild farming (well 3 people of the same guild) and I destroyed them, after killing them multiple times they wanted to talk to understand what's up and I explained them, they still got mad and my guild came to support me (and farm) then in the end they leaved or ragequited.
I guess it's part of the game since this in not just a PvE game.
Considering how sadistic RNGesus is in this game, Knowledges are the only thing I can imagine doing that sort of farming for.
This game isn’t about pve raiding and bosses. There are some world bosses if you want to call them that but they are just zergfest hp soaks. Otherwise youlifeskill, farm mobs endlessly, pvp to protect your farm spot, or guild pvp or pve.
Level 50 is about the first 30 minutes of the game. It can take 100 hours to farm from level 59 to 60. After that things start to take a while.
Of course, not counting the crazy exp scrolls...
This is 99 percent of what the game is. No joke, if you don't like grinding u should not play BlackGrind Online. :) Have a great day
I was perma red when I was below softcap (being red karma in the desert can be very good for your silver per hour income if you can manage to almost never die in pvp, even tho escaping from jail is very easy and fast, you simply can't be karmabombed cause you are already at min. karma) and now sometimes when I want to have braindead fun with my 266 ap I just go pk everyone in the desert.
Some will say that's only me having fun and that's true; this is bdo: a sandbox, open world pvp korean solo mmo. We don't want carebears.
Fun fact is, when you are red you don't really need to attack other players to engage a duel, they will come at you like flies as soon as they see you to send you to jail (or to get one shotted :P) lol.
Here's how it works.
Negative karma deaths penalties:
PVP Deaths OUTSIDE desert (basically everywhere you see your position on the map): 100% huge exp lose (recoverable with elion's tear from loyalty/pearl shop; keep in mind that while you can buy elions with pearls once you are already dead, you can't buy them with loyalties until you respawn, so if you don't have pearls remember to always have a bunch of loyalties elion's tear in your inventory) and most likely lots of crystals (big rip when you break more than 2-3 crystals worth 300 millions each) which are not recoverable.
PVE Deaths OUTSIDE desert: 100% huge exp lose, crystals and risk of downgrading gear (if you see a grab class, especially berserkers, that outgears you and you are red, just leave).
PVP Deaths IN desert: no exp or crystals lose. The only penalty here is going to jail (there are 3 RNG spawns, once you learn all the routes you can escape in like 2 minutes; best spots to farm as a negative karma are Fogans, Pila Ku and maybe Crescents, cause after escaping jail you will spawn at the red player city which is not far from there).
PVE Deaths IN desert 100% huge exp lose + crystals, no risk of downgrading gear.
Also, red players will get attacked by guards in majority of cities and can be attacked by other players in safe zones while they can't do anything.
The higher gear score you'll get the more you'll understand that to "legitimately" get a contested spot you need to ask for a duel and not pk, unless they refuse the duel.
But you know what? Lots of times in endgame grindspots I've asked if I could stay there for my last 10 mins exp/drop buff and most of the time people here is chill and tend to change rotation for those 10 mins if you ask. Just by doing this I met lots of good players and I had many pvp in battle arena after grinding and not for the spot, just for the fun of doing some pvp. :)
Desert is pure cancer instead and a pk fest cause of the death penalties if you get negative karma and maybe because there are more newbies or players in general (low ap grindspots), but here even if you are not red but you pked someone you'll remain flagged for 30 mins and other players can and will attack you without flagging and send you to jail.
Whenever someone thinks is holding me off with his "spot taken", I'll just flag, pk him and activate a guild war and I'll get his spot.
Last but no least, going from max karma to min karma in the desert can be very fast if you pk someone during peek times and recovering karma is way slower than outside desert, but hey at least you are safe. :)
Hope this long post clarified something about bdo pvp and red players.
I like bubbles.
I like you.
