Go through the questlines until you get a good grip on mechanics and what you want to do.
AFKing is for when you're established. You need inventory slots for fish and skills for good rods before you AFK fish with any efficiency, you need money for ingredients and weight to carry stuff in order to AFK process, you need to be level 50 to AFK train combat/skill exp at the dummys.
You can AFK train strength (carrying a trade good in a loop all night) and horse riding (ride a horse in a loop all night), but honestly, wait until you've got direction before you resign yourself to AFK grinding.
Equip your fishing rod and drop your line into the water, check the throw away trash items box and go afk! winning
