As for exp, you "don't" have to attack or kill the enemy. You share exp, however the shared exp is rather low.
As for scroll bosses, you have to be party leader in order to complete the quest because you yourself are the one that's activating the scroll for the quest. Other party members can participate but they don't complete the quest that you activate. They have to receive party leader and use the scroll themselves, so basically a scroll boss of 5 players, you'll be doing that quest 5 times for each player.
If there is a gap of 6 levels or more, if the mobs being killed are purple for the lowest level member in the party, XP is greatly reduced for everybody. This happens even if you are nowhere near the low level person (ie, not in XP sharing range at all).
If there is a gap of 10 or more levels, nobody in the party gets loot. This is true for scroll bosses as well. If you are a level 50 running a scroll with a level 61, nobody will get loot from the boss (you still get the quest reward bundles).
Max party number is 5. No way around that.
