And here comes the stupid. It's an open world sandbox MMORPG. That means end game is whatever I want the end game to be. The end game could be catching rare fish or cooking some fancy meal all the time if I want it to be. THAT'S THE POINT OF THE "RPG" IN "MMORPG"; the game is what you make it.
Dumbass.
And for OP theres isnt friendly fire or anything like that in the game, unless you get close to the person and flag him for pvp you wont be able to attack him
Did anyone ever tell you that I know, and that's why I posted this topic to begin with, to inquire about how not taking that quest and not advancing past 49 i.e. not getting awakening would impact my PvE play, such as with the story and with later mobs that ARE past level 50 and seem to require awakening to take on?
Yeah, that was a thing too. (Fortunately, I got my answer already as well)
Let me fix that for you.
"I can't find a nice place to hang out and just watch the sun set and look for cool photo angles because anyone running by can just up and start stabbing me for no reason."
This never happens. Never.
Even if it were to happen, you lose nothing. All that happens is that you have to respawn at closest node, losing no XP, no crystals.
I can't do lifeskill activities like fishing or mining cuz I never know when someone might run up on me as I'm just trying to gather resources, especially if its hunting or fishing and I'm caught with a gun/rod in my hands instead of my weapons and I'm even more screwed. "
See above
"If they kill my horse then that's still a death on my horse. And I'm guessing if I had resources on my horse for trade purposes, then that's just dead in the water too and whatever I spent on those resources is lost. "
This is not true.
Your horse can only be attacked by other players if you are close to it.
It does NOT count as a death, you do NOT lose items.
"A lot of my items have crystals on them and many of them say high chance of being shattered if killed. So that's even more sunk costs. "
Crystals do NOT shatter on player inflicted death.
"And in a game where I just want to mind my own business, I suddenly don't have that option anymore. At least Overwatch *IS* a PvP game, there's no other way to play it except maybe just doing nothing except "practice against AI" and if you do just stay in "practice against AI" mode, you won't have some random guy drop in and gank you for the hell of it. "
This DOES NOT HAPPEN. Sure, there will always be people who find it funny to go around killing randoms, but this is so rare I have yet to see it even once in 2-3 months of playing.
The ONLY times people really fight is in the really popular grinding locations, like Sausan garrison.
Here, people will fight to claim a rotation of mobs, but this is one area, and as long as you stay away from other people while grinding they will leave you alone. Time spent killing random people is time spent not killing enemies so it's lost profit. People will only attack if you try to take enemies from their rotation.
"And I know about the karma loss system, but as I was reading up on it, apparently the game's changed enough that karma is hella easy to earn back, so there's not even any real loss to them for PK. So that's not even a real deterrent anymore it seems."
Karma is easy to get back, but you also lose a lot more karma for killing someone, more lost the bigger the gearscore difference.
"I don't really care about being stuck at 49 forever (yes I do), it's sorta a bummer but fine, whatever. I don't get why awakening is locked though for anyone that just wants to stay dedicated PvE because if I understand this correctly, it'll become extremely difficult to continue PvE gameplay too eventually if I can't use awakening so I don't know what gives there. "
You basically won't be able to do any content in Mediah or Valencia.
You seem to have this misconception that people run around killing each other all over the place.
If this was the case you should be seeing people fighting all the time, with every area outside of the safespots being a constant bloodbath. Can you really honestly say that you've ever seen two people fighting in the wild in this game?
This can't happen, you have to manually trigger your PVP on to attack someone. If the other person flags for PVP then yeah, you can hit them but it still wont trigger you.
Even if someone attacks you and you fight back and win, you don't lose karma or get flagged for PVP yourself.
Although if you get attacked and you start to win, the attacker normally runs off anyway.
Oh cool so I can AoE fireball away as long as I haven't flagged someone if I go 50+ that's good to know at least I won't accidentally start something I don't mean to then.
Also as it so happens, and this is to axelmonster, but for whatever reason I saw a large crowd of people fighting right outside of Heidel city i believe it was, in some fenced area. So I noped out of there really quickly. I actually imagined that's what it was like, especially since so many people seem to repeat that end game *IS* pvp (*cough Naoi up there is prime example #1 on this very thread itself*) so if PvP is touted as end game, then yeah I really expected the game to just be a constant PK bloodbath which is why I was concerned.
If that's not the case though then that's good. I'm thinking I'll advance my secondary character past 50 and just see how it goes. Trolls notwithstanding, a lot of people do seem insistent that PvP isn't as common as those touting PvP as end game would make it seem, so I'll give it a shot and I do genuinely want to say thanks for that because I didn't know crystals didn't shatter and horses didn't get a death count from being PK, and those were some of my biggest concerns originally but now I know better.
Multiple level 56 awakened characters
Been ganked 1 time.
One thing you do want to avoid is being on any channel that ends in 1 around 19:00GMT.
This is when node-wars start, and anyone in an active node war area, regardless of level, is free game. Enemies also despawn when wars start, so there's not much reason for you to be around anyway.
Were the people you saw perhaps fighting in the arena outside Calpheon? This is an area especially made for the purpose.
It's also possible you saw two clans having an arranged fight.
It might have been. It was a while ago but it seems like the area was specifically set for PvP then because the whole brawl was being conducted inside of a fenced area and not once did it spill outside even with rangers, so that would explain that. Honestly I didn't think too deeply about it at the time, I saw a whole bunch of ♥♥♥♥ going down and just wanted no part of it.
Also that's another piece of good advice I'll keep in mind. Avoid channels ending in 1 at that time so i'm not caught up in node wars. Thanks. You too Saitech. Honestly, I wouldn't think of stealing other people's kills anyways cuz...I mean, up till now anyways all I had to do was go 10 feet further and I could take on the exact same enemy rather than try to KS and it was live and let live anyways so I wasn't planning on changing up that M.O. Honestly I feel a lot more reassured about this whole thing with how many people say how little random ganking happens and how I won't lose anything even on the one off that it does occur
dont bother to keep track of the channels, they warn you when a node war is about to start so can change to another server
There is a town south of the desert where most NPCs won't even talk to you if you don't have Neg Karma. Very close to Pila Ku Jail in fact. In a different game it would have been an interesting niche but with gear de-leveling on death with negative Karma you would need a high level Alt (58+) with their own full set of gear to even attempt to RP such a situation and that isn't realistic in BDO.
Just dont the the lvl 50 quest then, if ur life skilling, u wont be attacked often anyways.
