Newbie Here ~ Class?
Hiya, I've just gotten Black Desert in the summer sale, and I can't decide what class to pick before I play... I've narrowed it down to archer and sorceress, as I like the ranged, carry classes! :) I've been looking into guilds, and a few people have said that having a character of a popular class makes it hard to be accepted into a guild as there are already many members of that type... I've heard that archers are very popular, but I looked on the website and apparently sorceresses are more popular...?? I'm not sure... Firstly, will either of these classes make it hard to get into a guild? (I just read that on a forum so it might be false info... '0' ) and so which one should I go for? (I know both of them are very powerful and have good mobility, synergy too)... Sorry, long text! Thank you! (^.^)/'~

no it won't impact you that badly since most of the guilds mentioned above are top tier guilds that don't take people who are undergeared in their eyes but every other guild you come along will be very accepting of your class choice 9/10 so for now my advice to you is to just pick which class you think you will enjoy the most worst comes to worst just make another character since having alternative characters is essential for striving in BDO

Ironically Sorceress is mostly melee, with a few ranged spells. If you really like ranged i'd stick with the ranger/witch/wiz/dk.

Hi there daisytoxic, glad to hear you're planning on getting into BDO. Personally, I believe you should choose the class you're going to have the most fun with. When it comes to a game, you want to make sure you're having fun. The class should also feel very fluid & comfortable to use as well, I know personally I tried making an alt striker character but, couldn't really get into the combat because I wasn't all that comfortable with his combos and attacks.

When it comes to guilds, most high-ranking guilds are surprisingly always looking for the most popular to use classes (specifically for node/siege wars) (wizards, witches, etc. *classes that do a lot of AOE damage*). Don't let the thought of guilds looking for specific classes hinder you from choosing a class you think you'll enjoy, because most of the time, guilds are looking for people who are skilled in the class they currently use, and well-geared players. If you're not looking to join a high-ranking guild, than I can guarantee you that almost every other guild is just looking for members to join them, so they won't mind whichever class you use.

I think the sorceress looks like a really fun class to play, and I would've chosen it if it wasn't gender-locked. I suggest watching an Awakening video of both the Archer & the Sorceress's skillset, see which one you think you'd have more fun/comfortability with, and than go from there.

Best of luck!

To add to that, ranger becomes a mostly melee class post awakening and sorceress is the same way. Dark knight becomes a bit more ranged than sorc with its awakening, but the only true ranged classes are witch/wiz.

DaisyToxic if you're still deciding I'd say make as many classes as you can. You'll need alts in the long run and it doesn't hurt anything to try the classes out. Get them to 49 before you really decided on a main. I myself started with a wizard wasn't too satisfied with it at 50 and went warrior. Never going back, I absolutely love it. So don't limit yourself to just two classes because you might find another you like even more.

Okay this is great! Thank you for your help, and I'm glad to hear that the guilds are that accepting! (I was thinking of creating a Kunoichi too :) Thankyou!

Oh ok! Now that I know you can create multiple characters I guess I can try both. Maybe melee with a bit of ranged attacks would be good for me, since I do find it hard to distance myself from multiple enemies. Thank you! :)

Thank you very much! (This is such a nice community ^.^) ok noted, I'll try them both out (Maybe kunoichi or ninja too!) and then see which one I am most comfortable with concerning their fighting style. That's a good point too about how they just want players skilled in their class! I guess it's more experience and skill rather than class discrimination, but it sounds like there are many guilds to welcome newcomers!
Thank you very much for this advice, it's really helped me! Aw man, how did I not think to watch the awakening videos!? :)

That's a really good tactic actually, thank you! :) is level 50 the half-way level? Thanks to everyone's great advice I'm going to make multiple characters of different classes, and the class I'm most comfortable with will be my favourite! The guilds sound great too.

Ranger is good. She's not OP to take anyone pvp but all the guilds want them for their massive AoE spams.

Okay, this is good to know, thanks! One more question is it a good RPG as well as MMO? I've read that the community is good but there aren't that many RPG features for the 'lone adventurer'...

The story is sorta boring and the quests are fetch and kill. Since it's a sandbox RPG, you make your own story. Look up videos of life skiller professions. Some individuals made an entire cooking village, another a trade empire having workers gather all over the world for you, and the most popular is getting a boat and sailing. Where? Shoot other players, discover islands, and fish. 99% of the time you solo in this game in everything. Although you join a guild, you choose to be persistent and doing guild things like node wars, sieges, and declaring war on another guild.

This game doesn't follow the tradition mmorpg, but it has more to offer than a regular mmorpg. Again, look up "BDO empires". That is some advanced endgame stuff, but a beginner can do it too if they have the knowledge. This game is like 5 games in 1.

Wow, this is great, thank you so much! I didn't realise you could even DO that! The trade empire sounds really interesting too! The fact that you can pretty much have these in-game professions seems to make up for the loss in RPG. I'm really excited to play this now, thank you very much for your help!!! :D

About class choice, my best advice is to play the ones you want and enjoy, not the ones you think others would want you to play...or the FOTM, subjects to be nerfed at anytime.

If you enjoy your class, you will stick with it and be good with it.
If you dont, you will be bored fast or just be the eternal reroller, bad at all classes.

You can look at it like such. After 50 it becomes more of a chore to level your char. Exp requirements jump along with mob difficulty. 50 lets you establish a good idea of the class, their general quirks and a good play style with them. Also you might eventually want to level a second character, having some already at 50 gives you a heads up. I said 49 because at that level you have to complete a quest to level to 50+ and at 50+ pvp kicks in (Not as bad as it sounds) So you can still use your secondary chars as safe skillers in you wanted to.
