no idea what anything is really, or why enemies go from yellow to red on hp sometimes but other times go lose parts of the bar, honestly confusing.

Enemies go from yellow to red on hp because you do not yet have the [Knowledge] of that enemy. You have an RNG chance to obtain knowledge after every time you kill that enemy.
To get better gear, grind (active) or afk fish/process/cook/alc(passive):selphinehappy:

in 44 levels I have yet to find a gear drop better than what I had, is it that rare or does it only happen when you hit cap?

There are many different gear types. Your starter green unupgraded gear can be upgraded to +5 (for armor) and +7 (for weapon). If you want other green drops like grunils, i believe they drop somewhere near helms or sausans (lvl 50-55 zone u can find on ur map). If u are looking for yellow boss gear, youll have to kill field bosses and hope you get lucky.

From my understanding, gear before level 50 can be simplified as: use whatever set has the stats you want, upgrade it all to +5, and walk your way through everything until it actually matters at level 50+.

After that, I'm honestly not sure as I'm still a fairly new player and haven't taken the time to see the post-50 gearing chart.

as witch go with full grunil armor, upgrade to +5. yuria or rosar staff, steel dagger, upgrade to +7. alternatively, try to buy any of these items already enhanced to +15/DUO/TRI. it's easy to go from +15 to PRI so PRI is not ideal to buy imo. you will want at least +15 by the time you get to 52-54, otherwise sausans will be difficult.

If you have silvers, go to a marketplace and buy Grunil Armor (Helmet, Chestpiece, Glove, Boots) to have a 4 piece set which gives +HP and +AP.

Then use Black Stone (Armor) tokens with the blob black dude to upgrade those Grunil Items to +5 (+5 will succeed 100%, after +5 it has a chance to fail so don't go any further).

For Rings and Earrings, buy "Bue Coral" and for Belt/Necklace get "Ancient Guardians" or any that give AP.

Any of the above if you can't afford, there is usually a lower grade item for less silver which gives slightly less stats.

The important thing to go for if you're a DPS class is +AP which is damage, and +HP +Mana if you're a caster +Damage to all creatures etc.

I recommend you do all the black blobs quests all the way until there is no more so you level up to 54-56 (the games softcap) then you'll have tons of energy and Contribution Points.

what does softcap mean? i know what it means in context of other games, but I see skills/things in my abilities window that are level 80+ but never see anything beyond level 56 mentioned. also

I think that shares a set, I have no idea how skill points work in this game or if there is a finite amount of them so this is currently what my character looks like,

Also as a point of curiosity is there anything I should do before level 50? apprently i need to do a quest to unlock it or something and how much does pvp really effect me?
