How to start fishing

I wanted to give afk fishing ago in the time I cant be activly playing. But I'm having trouble getting started. I looked up guides but all the fishing poles they suggest getting are millions on the market and I...well I got miles to go before I can buy one of those.

So where do I start? The fishing pole I got from the vendor lost almost all it's durability after like 1 hour, but I hear people talking about having it go all night or while they are at work.

Okay, buy a white grade fishing pole from one of the Otters. Velia there is one right near the storage. Buy a couple of them and actively fish. Otherwise, buy an Epheria Fishing Pole on the market... these poles have extra durability and is best to afk fish with until higher level. Oh, and if AFK click the "Throw away useless items" that way you only keep the greens and higher.

Go to the fishing area, there is a npc that sells a crappy fishing rod. AFK fish for a few hours with it, then sell all the items you gained. There should have fished some stone looking items that sell for 700k silver. Sell those and buy yourself a rod that lasts you a long time from the auction house.

2500 silver or so it's not expensive at all.

Just to add that fish can be dried under processing for knowledge and selling on the market. You can sell fish to the Trader for a decent amount of silver as well.
