Black Desert

how is the pve and endgame pve?
greetings folks,

i am in desperate need of a good social mmo. but i'm not much of a pvp player. (i enjoy being a tank)
but i don't know how much of that is in this game.

i'd appreciate some information.
thanks

the pve is quite lite, the game doesn't really have the traditional holy trinity of roles i think there are some classes that can fire off a heal or two and some classes that inherently take less damage but its pretty subtle afaik. everyone is essentially a dps.

the end game consists of node war pvp, guild boss summons, world bosses that spawn on timers and the level and life skill grind. progress isn't really tied to pve progression moreso its tied to how lucky you are with the rng enchanting system and how much you want to grind, it takes a long time to level past 56-57, 58-60 is one hell of a grind.

i think the first person to reach 62 (in the eu) happened a few days ago i saw ppl spamming away that some guy reached 62, well it only took him probably a year or more. but there is more side progression to make then just main levels, life skills are worth doing as well and so is collecting more max energy and contribution. but those don't always involve combat.

so no dungeons or anything of the sorts? that's a shame.
there are 2 non-instanced dungeons, one i stumbled into myself called akman dungeon but the mobs in there hit extremely hard even with 220 dp the caster mobs hit me for probably 1/5th of my hp in one cast.

the combat is great though, if you don't like grinding you might not like bdo, its really that simple, because to level up you have to kill mobs and eventually you have to kill thousands and thousands of mobs. but again the combat is fun and after 56 with the awakening you will still learn new things or how to chain more combos together, hell i've only recently actually started learning how to play my class properly and i'm 57. like through most of the game you'll probably get by just fine mashing buttons but then once you get your awakening you can chain more combos together or go from main hand attacks to awaken attacks so the game play becomes a bit deeper, i think the combat is great even without the awakenings but it does make it more interesting as well once you reach 56.

all in all i think the game is closer to diablo than it is to wow, personally, the way level scaling works, exp loss on death, lots of grinding and the world bosses make the game feel more like an arpg with a persistent semi-sandbox world. its quite different to themepark mmos. but there is still a sense of progression its just possible to progress entirely solo at least in power.

I don't think those are what he considers dungeons, since those areas are literally just underground areas with mobs. there are no bosses, no mechanics. It is just an area with harder mobs (and not harder in the good way).
thats why i think the game plays a lot more like an arpg, i mean arpgs are essentially lots and lots of mob grinding with the occasional boss. bdo world bosses are pretty much like the sort of boss you would see in an arpg mostly tank and spank with the occasional move or get one shotted ability..

personally i don't mind the casual pve, the grind is the cliff you have to climb if you want to unlock the lvl 58-60 talents, and either grinding money to buy upgrades to praying to rngesus for enchanting successes.

Game world and characters looks awesome. Combat is great, reponsive and fast. Although a bit over the top in graphical effects for my taste.
But so far PVE content feels very bland. And every wrong turn somehow puts me in pvp areas, which kind of annoys me.
I also have to look at the UI settings, because it looks way too busy when already confronted with a very detailed looking world.
I am not really the grind to max lvl so I can PVP kind of guy, so maybe this is not the game for me.

Once you hit 50 every area is a PvP area outside of cities and certain towns.
This game is not pvp.

If you think winning someone by outgearing is pvp then you don't you're not competive person.

The game was originally designed as a pay2win open world pvp type. Battle of the wallets crap.

Used to be when you died you lost xp. They changed that because people complained. Then when you died you lost some loot you carried. People complained and they changed it.

Now there is literally zero reason to pvp outside of node wars which only occur at certain times of the day on certain days so it locks out a lot of people from even participating.

It's a shame, but the community didn't want a pvp game. So this is what they got. PVE city with a little "feel good" pvp where you lose nothing when you die.
bdo is pretty much
grinding mobs and lifeskill ( your daily job such as fisherman, hunter, gather resources and so on) lifeskill consumes energy.

there is no end game pve, yeah there are world bosses BUUUUT
once you get your gear there's no reason to do them anymore and also there's no reason to play this game anymore.
you can do a little bit of pvp here and there but that's pretty much about it,
there's no dungeons nothing like that.

bdo feels very incomplete and if you're going to follow the path of a lifeskiller then you're pretty much not playing the game, you're just resting on your bed and waiting for your energy to refill, you press the ESC key and run the game in the background and while you wait..... YOU PLAY ANOTHER GAME!!!
because of that the game feels very dead.

you see a lot of people... but they are all afk in cities doing amazing things such as... processing resources in order to do imperial trade so they can make money and waste all that money on sharps and hard shards trying to enhance their gear but most of the times they fail making their gear lose enhancement levels and durability.

After that they need to repair their equipment which... is very expensive...and try again but they will probably fail once more and will have to do it aaaaall again...
some people even quit the game cuz they can't enhance their gear....

that's pretty much the BDO experience in a nutshell....

not a bad game but it's not a good one by far
if you're gonna play an mmorpg chose another one... you'll probably have more fun...

I'm necroing this just to let you know that you're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot. PvP stands for player versus player. It doesn't matter if they "winning someone" just because they have better gear, it is still, literally, by definition, pvp.
The system in BDO is completely different to the usual MMOs you know like WoW.
There are no classes like Tank Healer and DD. Each class has its own combat skills and rotation and abilities. So you choose out of more than 15 classes. Its hard to find out which one you will like, you can only try out every and each one for that.
This is the most time consuming MMO you will ever play in your life ;)
But compare it like to the classes in Rainbow Siege 6 or Moba games. Where each class has its unique powers and skills.

PvE is grinding or lifeskilling(also grinding if u ask me). Thats ur content as PvE right there.
This game is rly a basic game , not much besides stunning graphics and combat style it has.

edit: U want a social mmo ? dont even think about playing bdo. Its made for solo gangers , there are spots that 2-3 players can team up to grind but thats it.
