Leveling? New to game
So i brougth BDO like a couple of days ago but i havent really had a real shot at the game yet. Just been watching videos and stuff related to the game so i have a general knowledge before i even start playing fully.

However, I heard the game is quite grindy? Not in regards to gear (expected in an MMO) but even just to level up? I have saw posts and people from videos saying leveling is by pulling large mobs and just killing them over and over and when you reach the max level for that bracket / zone. You move to the next and do the same? Is that really the case? I've even saw people saying it can take weeks / months to even level up if your not correctly geared since you arent farming efficient enough?

I remember one of the most grindy games in regards to having to kill 100's and 1000's of mobs just to level was a game called 9Dragons. You would literally get like 0.01% just for killing 1 mob and etc. Is this game's leveling system similar to that where you have to do the same just to level up?

You will eventually need to do the main-story, as you need to finish a certain quest in order to be able to level up to level 50. However, the fastest way to levelup is just grinding mobs, fullout korean-style.

Soo...if I avoid that quest I dont have to hit 50 and not be at risk of PVP?

I mean I know this game has an open PVP aspect but...how bad is it? Constant ganking or are people genreally cool?

What are story quests? There is Black Spirit 1 and Story 1. What is more important?

Basically BDO has no max level.
There is, however, a softcap and a hardcap.
The softcap being about level 50'ish and the hardcap being at 56.
Leveling up to 50 can be done in a day if you really want to.
soft cap is now 60

You can level that way....by grinding...very boring.

I found just doing missions leveled me up quick.

Its the extra skills and such that are the grindy part...like increasing your weight limit or for that matter increasing your health.

Those require things like moving while heavily burdened as an example.

Horse riding skill requires riding a horse

diving requires diving...

etc etc.

Those skills require grinding.

Also knowledge skils....
you have multiple levels fo them....

when you get a knowledge it might not be a good level....so you have to get rid of the old one....and re train it.......

Like for eaxmple you want knowledge of weasels....but cant get the higher level version....becasue the RNG doesnt give it to you.....you might be grinding weasels for a bit.

the rng makes it more grindy then anything else.

Some missions same way.....this game suffers from the good old collect missions where you need 10 teeth as an example.....and have to kill things until you get 10 teeth....that sort of thing....you might be killing for hours at times.

if your main goal is life skills like fishing, you can completely ignore combat levels.

And this is where you are wrong:
There is no hardcap, since you can't reach a max level in theory.
And a softcap is with level 49, which can be removed by a quest - which defines a "softcap", a cap which can be removed by a player's action.

What you mean are steps in the game's progression, from which on it starts to be diminishing progress.

hardcap: stopping point, no further progress possible
softcap: a cap, which can be removed by quest, item, purchase or else
breaking point: a point in a progression's curve from which the progress slows strongly slows down (not a cap!)

If you don't like to grind thousands of mobs, this game is nothing for you.
Even if you have other things to do in here, like lifeskills (crafting and gathering stuff), you still want to level up and from level 56+ it will be very very timeintensive just to get a few % per day.

Players at 60/61 are happy with 0,1% after hours.

gonna nekro this to say that 56 starting with no gear takes less than 5 hours.
do the main story and grind mobs while youre doing it. main story gives you gear.

56-60 can be done by either grinding or just questing. quests give a decent amount of exp with no real effort. if you dont get bored grinding mobs then go to polly forest with marni stones and start stacking bodies. sell the ♥♥♥♥ you find.
