Some classes give you male/female like the wizard or ninja class, but yeah... sucks.
lore-wise, each "class" is more like a "hero" with its own backstory etc, reflected mostly in the succ/awa quests.
not the typical blank sheet player chars other mmos have.
the classes in this game behave more like for example diablo2 chars, or overwatch, or dota, or path of exile. you get the gist.
Just one of the reasons why is to reduce the development time and cost of creating different models and animations.
Probably because that's what the Character Creator is for, Changing what your character looks like.
