Game crashes
The game crash at every startup. After the encouragement to play with a controller the screen goes black and a box with "fatal error" shows up (and the game seemingly shuts down but I can hear the sound)
Fix?
Playing on win 10.

Sorry to hear you're having issues. Does the sound continue to play or does it cut out after a while?

How long is "a while"? I had it on for like a minute, then I shut it down (sound still playing) . Not at my computer now so I can't try longer.

It shuts down by itself after ~2 minutes.

It does sound similar to something i had back when we developed this.
Try first of all (most boring answer ever) to see that your gfx driver is updated, sometimes UE and drivers dont like eachother.

Now what "solved" my problem back in the day was forcing window mode by:

C:\Users\[ProfileName]\AppData\Local\Copoka_Unreal\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
Replace [ProfileName] with your username on Windows.

There will be an game.ini file there, which you should change ScreenMode from
ScreenMode=f
to
ScreenMode=w

And then with the game booted up just press alt-enter to go fullscreen, try this! :)

The game.ini file was all empty so it was nothing there to change.
I had the newest drivers (Nvidia) but I reverted to a older one and then updated to the newest again through Geforce experience rather than through their website and after that the game worked! Sweet! :golden:

I am having the same issue, I tried doing the ScreenMode=w but it still crashes. Is there any other way to fix this problem? I don't know how to do the whole drivers thing, are there any links I should go to? Thanks.

Same here, only it completely locked my PC...had to do a hard reset.

I bought the game last night and I'm having the same problem. My game.ini file was also completely blank, but I tried pasting ScreenMode=w into it anyway as suggested above. That did nothing.

My graphics driver appears to be up to date but I reinstalled it for good measure. The game still crashes. This is the error message I am getting:

LowLevelFatalError [File:D:\Build\++UE4+Release-4.12+Compile\Sync\Engine\Source\Runtime\Windows\D3D11RHI\Private\D3D11Util.cpp] [Line: 176]
Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0006 - 'HUNG')

Running on Windows 10 - Creators Update, latest nvidia game ready driver.

New game - runs fine, no issues
Load game - crashes

New game - admin privileges, runs fine
Load game - admin privileges, crashes

Seems like there is an issue with loading a previous game, which sucks because you have to overwrite the save if you start a new game. I would imagine there is a dodgy variable being added in the save process, because it loads far enough to see the bird on the nest before grinding to a halt.

My drivers are up to date and that Game.ini file is empty. Is there anything else I can do to make this run?

It's happening to me with the current version from Humble Trove, I could download it from Steam but I doubt it'll be different? I built the nest before I quit the game, and when I restart it, it loads the scene (bird in the nest) and then crashes.

Confirmed, the save does not load properly with the Steam version, either.

If you bought this game and want to quickly check if you have this problem (and maybe refund easily), do this:
* find the market square with the tower in the center, it's visible from the nest.
* Close by the tower is a bright spot on the pavement, land nearby and walk to it
* the bird picks up a medal
* take off again and fly back to the nest (orange/yellow from afar)
* land on the nest
* the game will auto-save
* quit to main menu
* load saved game

For me, the save game reset; if I did more or different things, I saw corruption of some kinds.
If for you, you see the nest with the medal that you added, saving might work as intended.

Hmm, after I finished the first chapter, the game saved and reloaded properly.
