Does anyone else hate the harriers?
Their mechanic of requiring helipads to land is incredibly frustrating. I wish I could just land them normally

I'd rather that any of the other jets. The one landing strip eventually creates a huge traffic jam, plus there's zero chance of overshoot with the landing pads.

The only one drawback to harries is no ECM. I'd take them any day over regular Hornets.

Wouldn't say I hate them but I agree on the frustration. It would be a great enhancement to the game to grant the harriers the same flexibility on landing as they have for taking off.

I personally love the Harriers, as they're very capable and can takeoff either from the catapults or the helispots. (They're called spots aboard ship, not pads, for reasons)

I do wish we had the option of telling them how to land, but it's much less of an issue as it's pretty easy to move helicopters out of their way, and you can safely land 3 of them much more rapidly than you could any other strike aircraft.

STOL FTW

The only thing I dislike about it is how everything get jammed at the landing area late game. The parking slots are usually almost always full then and it get increasingly difficult to move ready helicopters out of the way for landing. It get particularly hairy when you get several carriers in a row and have to land 12 aircraft while those harriers you sent for the rest try to land at the same time.

Rest of the time they are great. I tend to under use them tho.

Harrier does not have tail hook so cannot land conventionally on a carrier, they can do stunted rolling landings.

Harrier doesn't need to do a conventional landing on a carrier with their V/STOL capabilities.

But as in real life, in game, they're super useful and a good choice. Do wish they could perform ECM missions, but oh well.

I used to hate them until I became more proficient at managing the helicopters. They are a bonus on that third catapult IMO. Also, did you know that you can click a helicopter or harrier as it is coming in for a landing and choose the landing pad ( no lecture about calling them pads please.)

I did not. I thought that was a fixed call.
