Super Carrier Mod 1.1.4
I wanted to post this mod on the Workshop forum but apparently there isn't one even though the game can be modded to some degree. Anyway, I did a lot of work trying to make this mod possible. Due to Steam's policy, I'm unable to post the mod here, so you can contact me directly at snaptrap@hotmail.com to receive the link to the files. Also, if you have a copy of the mod, you are welcome to share or host it.

Complete Features List:
1) All aircraft have increased health and patrol times.
2) All aircraft loading, repairing, and refueling times have been reduced.
3) All aircraft and cargo loaders have increased taxi speeds.
4) All fixed-wing aircraft no longer have false landings.
5) All enemy craft attack power is equal to their approach speeds (seconds).
6) Carrier has increased health (1,000, 2,000, 3,000) to compensate for changes to enemy attack power.
7) Deck crews and infantry animations have been disabled to avoid hangups while traversing around aircraft.

Rather than have everyone view the Readme, I decided to post the instructions here.

Directions: Copy the sharedassets1 and sharedassets3 file into your Steam\steamapps\common\Carrier Deck\CD_Data folder. Overwrite the existing files. To restore the game to its original condition, you can “Verify Integrity of Game Files” for Carrier Deck through Steam itself.

Bug Workaround: There is a known bug with the cargo loaders not moving at random points in the game. This is a conflict with altering the units. To fix this, pause and resume the game. Eventually the cargo bays will fill, and the loaders will stop.

I will be adding new features in the future. I was going to make the carrier nearly invincible, but I found it to be too easy with the other changes.

Wow, sounds like you created a super easy mode! I wouldn't be interested in those features because it would remove too much of the challenge, but I'm sure some would love it.

BUT.................. If you can make a mod that does any of the following, you will have the interest of a LOT of people.

Create an Infinite / Endless mode

This has been a VERY popular request on the forums, and many of us are baffled as to why they didn't put it in the game, but it's clear now that they are totally done with development.

* Modify, or duplicate, the 3 survival modes with the following features or something similar

* Remove the ship damage meter so ship can take unlimited damage. Make sure to _keep_ the feature of the ship deck taking hits and incurring damage. It's just the meter that ends the round that people want gone.

--------------------------

* Add one or more difficulty slider bars that would allow the player to adjust the density of the enemy craft. This would allow a player to push their own limits and maximize enjoyment. E.g., instead of 3 craft per minute coming in, the player could set it to 4 or 5. Also, ideally there would be a bar for each attack type (air, sur, sub, etc.)

* Add a play speed slider bar so people adjust the game speed to their ability level. Currently the only speed changer is the x2 button that you have to hold down.

----------------------------

* Some sort of custom mission builder. For example, there have been a number of requests for cargo only missions. That would be great. I would love to be swamped in cargo flights for a change.

-------------------

* Allow more flexibility of craft to attack craft types that they currently cannot. I don't recall the exact details of the requests that have been made here, but maybe someone else will chime in.

* Allow broader mixing of attack craft types for multi craft missions, e.g., allow both F-18 types go out together to hit the same ship, and other types too. Currently, some think it's too restrictive.
===================================

I do have a question though, and that is about security of these files. How can the user be sure that they are safe to use?

I made this mod to overcome some of the flaws with the game such as planes constantly bolting multiple times in a row. Plus I got tired of having to play the missions over when I restore my computer. There's no way to backup the save.

I'll go through each of those features and see what I can change because I'm just a novice when it comes to modding. I won't be able to make any graphical modifications.

As for security. There's only one file and it overwrites the existing sharedassets3.assets file. It's exactly the same size as the original file. I've provided a readme explaining how to use it.

Sounds good. I really hope that ship damage meter can be switched off in survival mode. That would be so great.

I've always been interested in coding and moding, etc, but something always gets in the way and distracts me.

It's beyond me why anyone would want an endless mode, but I think I should be able to at least allow the carrier to sustain more damage. This mod itself does a good job in protecting the carrier. I managed to go a few hours on Admiral before getting bored.

Endless modes are very popular in games like this, which is why some of us were surprised that it wasn't in there from the start.

Basically, it's just a more relaxed gameplay where you can play super casual and it just doesn't matter. You can alternate between serious and casual in the same game, you can deliberately screw around and experiment, you can get up to make a snack and leave it running. It's just an "easy going no stress" mode.

I like to have both options in games like this, the standard modes for when I want to play serious, and endless for when I just want to fool around and don't care.

But if you can't remove the function that ends the round via ship damage, then it would certainly have the same effect to increase the damage cap 1000 fold.

I think I might take a peek at that file myself and tinker a bit. Does it have to be the exact same size? Do you use a utility to adjust the size with junk data, or do you track the difference by hand?
GunstarGizmo Jun 9, 2019 @ 11:37am
I don't think it need to be the exact same size. The extra edits are negligible. After reading and watching several tutorials on how to mod Unity based games, I used the Unity Assets Bundle Extractor to extract the required entries. The only difficulty was finding the applicable files and lines to edit for the units I wanted to change. They appear in various forms throughout the file. For example, the F-18 may be listed as just "Hornet" or "GameObject_F-18", and then I had to find the "health" setting which was listed as a separate entry. It was a bit time consuming, but once I recognised the pattern, I no longer needed the unit entry to locate the entries for health, taxi speeds, search speed, etc. Good luck.

How about you just create a step-by-step user guide for the game and explain where the file/s that need to be edited are, how to edit them, what parameters need to be changed, and what the effect of said changed values are.

That way anyone who stumbles on this game in the distant future can easily find your work rather than sorting through the forums (finding info like this on the forums can be like finding a needle in a haystack).

I'll try to make a tutorial based on what I know, but it's likely that the tutorial will be lost with the mod.

Make it a user guide here on Steam.

And there are lots of free sites where you can either post it as a blog, or free web based file share sites that you upload and link to.

Yeah it seems like this is just easy mode, but its fine if people want it. You could try to have a link in any other site like nexus or somewhere else, idk. I would love the concept of an unlimited mode in which the carrier never dies but you have to do the same repair work if it gets hit, or more. Or something like that. Since we are at it, can you make it so that different planes made for the same mission can work together for the same enemy? Or is that hard-coded into the game to not be possible? I hate to find out i have to wait 1 minute to defeat a threat because i have 3 F18s for CAP but a single FA18 that cant go with them.

I'm trying to find time to create a tutorial so people can make their own modifications. Other personal projects are making that difficult.

What I'm currently trying do is make it so that the cargo planes repair the carrier a bit with each drop. It may be possible to mix more planes into one attack group but I haven't explored that feature yet. I recently added the ability to equip aircraft while on elevators. With those features, I should be able return other settings to normal. I'd like to eventually make it into a mod that offers a challenge which isn't based on flaws and limitations like the one you mentioned.

This game has potential to be something so much more.

Correct. And i cant even say that the devs let this game on hold while they focus on other games, because they have been on radio silence since the last update. I think they DID let this game to die.

I think the only changes the game needs is improving the pathfinding (which is the worst I've seen since first gen mid 90s RTS games; just make one plane pause and let the other go instead of both freezing) and being able to mix plane types for large ship strikes.

The game should theoretically let you last forever with perfect play, but no human is capable of perfect play forever. Too many times the one type restriction means it's impossible if you roll up a ridiculous comp.

The worst I've seen:

- 3 carriers, 1 destroyer, 1 battleship all within half a minute
- 4 two-hit amphibious landing targets right in a row, when I only had 2 Ospreys total

Let the player mix plane types. Balance it out by requiring the 3rd plane to use an extra order slot, so it's a little more beneficial to use all one plane type, but you can use multiple if you have the slots. Then mix up the threat comp a little so you're not getting ridiculous impossible to cover stuff like half a dozen ships or amphibious targets all at once.

i think that C2-s in the game would be a nice addition since IRL they do supply delivery and sometimes special ops insertions. They would do ONE or TWO of the jobs of the chinook so they would still be used. If some people think the chinook shoudl be removed because its n't accurate its missions could always be moved to the seahawk or add a Seaknight.
