What's the deal with caves?

So I have got a large number of hours in the game but stall have not got around how they can be dealt with

1. Can I destroy caves with units other than MOAB/s?
2. To keep a cave shutdown do you have to keep infantry there the whole time or does the cave disappear after you kill a certain number of units from them?

I did the Musa Qala 2007 mission whereby on Turn60 I need to have no taliban in the area. I did it with no Taliban in the area but it said I was defeated because there were 3x caves still in the area (which I assume is milita though)

I just had the same issue, created a thread.

No taliban in the area, but there was a militia cave. By 'clear taliban' does the game actually mean' clear taliban and militia'?

Cave never disappers (you can only shutdown it with MOAB). If there is ongoing Taliban Offensive, a nearby village supports Taliban or there are enough Opium Fieldds - then cave will spawn Talibian units insted of Milita ones.

A lot of campagin missions are bugged...
