Ability to swim
Heya,

just started playing the game on PS4 today and I am currently not very far into it, did roughly half of the content offered in the Grasslands and did not explore any further. I dont know if later in the game you get an item or a vehicle to traverse water, but I was very disappointed to be magically teleported back to land when I tried to swim through Goldlake. It is very irritating when exploring the coastal areas as well, because you can actually walk into the water for some short time and then suddenly get transported back to shore.

If there is some option to traverse water later, consider this request obsolete. If not, I would love to be able to swim through bodies of water on the island, maybe even in the coastal areas...

The Devs have set up water as a "soft obstacle".

While I also find the inability to swim in the lakes and rivers a little on the annoying side, I understand the Dev's reasoning -- to allow the player characters to swim would give them access to areas specifically off limits.

I also suggested the ability to swim in at least the landlocked bodies of water, followed by the suggestion that the reset trigger be a bit more sensitive as to detect when the character has surfaced to prevent the game from "resetting" them when they're not technically in any danger. I still think the second option to be viable, and the Devs have told me they are thinking about a solution.

that is good to hear. I would love to be able to at least swim in lakes as you suggested, bodies of water on land. I dont care about the open sea or saltwater swimming anyway and I understand the natural borders and obstacles it creates.

But please give us some kind of swimming or floating to traverse landlocked water!

The thing is some lakes are also used as soft barrier just like rivers do. So even if I would like to see swimming there are a way more things to take into account for balancing, which make the work a bit to much to be worth it.

There's only one time where you need to cross deep water and there you have a ferry ... i like the way it's handled ... you can explore without fear of drowning ... even very close to ridges

Some rivers you can cross if you walk close at Waterfalls

No need for swimming IMHO

Yeah, after playing the game for more time I know understand how swimming does not really fit the original concept. It is a shame, though, but all the spots for bridges and progression would be rendered obsolete if one could swim.

I've noticed that you can generally traverse shallow waters, marked by turquoise color, everything that is darker will make you drown. That helps a lot already, still I would like to be able to react for like 5 seconds after drowning, being able to move and jump so you can (if youre lucky) avoid the reset

I too think swimming would be cool, but I accept the dev response I got when I asked about it, need some kind of barriers, water is as good as any. You could maybe have three classes of water. Shallow walkable, deep impassable, and some kind of middle ground safe water you could swim in, but the game wasnt designed for it, so that would probably be a lot of work.
