I recommend checking out some streams to get a good idea:

Explore, quest, find, dress up, build, craft, farm, trade, and heal the world. It's super chill, and is just the game i have been waiting for.

PlayStation Access also did a 2 hour stream of the early game.

The game is eliminated, that is, does not have an end?

The game has a story that allegedly takes 8 hours to complete.

Your mileage will vary on how much time you want to put into finding collectibles, finding all crafting recipes, catching all the fish, maxing out each guild's rank, managing your farm, etc.

But then regardless of what we do the game always has an end?

I typically don't play open ended games with no ending like multiplayer only online shooters, Space Engineer, Animal Crossing, etc.. I also tend to stay away from games like Teraria or slime rancher which are open ended, but have worlds and tech trees to explore.

I have played all of the above mentioned games, and have no desire to play any of them again. I find the addition of a story mode very compelling in open world games. I would much rather pick up a game I've spent tens to hundreds of hours in (Elder Scrolls, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout, GTA, Saints Row, Stardew Valley, Legend of Zelda, Horizon 0 Dawn, etc.) because the story built up the world in a way that made me want to return to the world, even if the story is long since finished.

Yonder's story does have an end, but it allows you to play as much as you want. I'm only 2 hours in, but i find the world and the story contained in it compelling enough to play this game for maybe 30-40 hours. Well worth the asking price, even if it wasn't on sale.
