We need some way of keeping track which region still has cats or not. In addition, it needs to indicate which regions will have rare cat spawns like midnight runner and summer blue, because the dialogue is completly vague from the animal lady and the region where she describes already has stated all cats found, but no rares.
And I am NOT travelling the whole world on Fall nights to try to find only 1 damn cat.

Since the game tells you how many cats are left in the area after you find one, I don't know why that info isn't accessible in the journal. It'd certainly be helpful if it was. I think there should be some sort of purchasable/craftable cat radar once you reach a certain completion % or something. Same thing for the trees. In fact, I'll probably get every cat before I find every spot that needs a tree in even just one region. :(

Edit: How far along are you with the cats? I'm doing terribly. I'm taking a break now after finally getting the achievement for finding half of them.

As far as I have seen each type of cat only exists in one region (I could be wrong about this). And the pink haired woman who tells you infos about the animals in a region also tells you which cat type is in this region and if they have special spawn conditions. I hope this helps with finding the cats, good luck!

How do people feel about this? Are cats too difficult to find? Do you enjoy the hunt? DO YOU WANT MORE KITTIES?!

From a design perspective this represents a collection and information sharing metagame -- we expected people to come togethor and share information on cat types and locations (which is definitely happening, it's quite sweet to see things like the Cat Hunter Guild posts)

Would love to here your thoughts, as I'd be keen on expanding this cat metagame :)

Well I quite like the cat quest. But I think some cats are probably quite tricky to find seeing as I'm searching for quite a while in some areas and still didn't find all cats in some areas, even though they are making sounds which should make it easier...

Adding more cats would... maybe too much, but adding a similar quest would be really nice. I can imagine a quest to find butterflies, either making it similar to the cat quest or changing it up a bit, you get a quest to complete a collection of all butterfly races and then get clues where to find each race.

I love cats and would be fine with more cats, but I really think there needs to be some sort of late game cat radar or cat sensor. And maybe the information about what kinds of cats can appear in what conditions should be distributed more throughout the game rather than just through Kari after talking to her a dozen times in every location she's in. Some cats I've found most of and some cats I haven't found any of, so clearly there's something I'm missing!

Also, is it supposed to be possible to get more of a type of cat than are needed to fulfill the cat lady quest? Seems like a few people have been experiencing that.

Edit: In contrast to the last comment, I don't think there's any need to change the type of collectible. Finding your first cat is one of the defining moments of charm in this game. Besides, the game already has a "similar" quest, it's 100%ing all the trees for every area. :P

jistyles I would recommend having the cats spawn randomly in set locations instead of being locked to a specific spot. Through this method both the chance of finding that last cat is enhanced and the information on their location becomes more relevant without sacrificing too much of the challenge. The frequency of the change could be anywhere from 1 day to a season. The biggest annoyance I have comes with the midnight runner, as the animal lady in those woods gives a clue at that location and we may have assumed we could find the cat there, but upon finding a bunch of green whiskers it said all cats are found in that region. That has me disheartened without a clue as to where to search during fall nights anywhere in the world. That is too much ground to cover when I have already completed everything in the world save finding 4 cats. Adding to this, we have no indication of which regions are completed or not and we may not remember if we cleared a region or not of all cats.

To everyone else, certain cat types can be found spread between different regions, so do not think its that easy. For instance the snowy milk that can be only found in winter and is mostly found on mount nimino has at least 1 that I can confirm is nearby in the frozen region north and vice versa there is a snowy longtail in a cave in mount nimino that is normally found in the northern frozen region. So this compounds the problem.

Talking to Kari in each region should give you some tips.

What we want to also do is get the cats into the collection log. I think that would help!

I hope it would be more detailed then a simple list as the quest description already provides that, yet does not provide near enough details.

Muhahaha I found the Summer Blue in hint1Crestfall Coast. It specifically only appears around hint2 noon in summer near the sage stone.
