How is the AI
Does the AI give a decent fight? Do the expansions help?

It is better than any comparable AI for a game of this complexity that I have played, excluding chess-likes, go, and other abstracts. Still not really strong though.

Expansions make no difference AFAIK.

Playing against 3 Hard AI is pretty challenging. You need to make every turn count, because they will end the game as quickly as possible, and rack up points fast.

The Hard AI is very strong. Top 1% of players. Source: In the old Keldon AI player rankings, the different colored bots were also ranked, and hovered around 100th overall, among some 10,000 players IIRC.

Experts will still beat the Hard AI consistently and relatively easily, but it takes thousands of plays to get to that level of experience.

Replace "thousands" with "tens" and I'd agree with you. Of course, people learn at different rates, but anyone who isn't an expert after hundreds of plays is a significant outlier.
Yea its using keldons AI they hired him... or licensed it... not sure which one. Case studies have been written about the AI as far as I understand I did not know that it was using keldons when I wrote this message. They are also using neural nets in roll for the galaxy and keldon did the AI for Shards as well... I bought the game the second I found out it was keldons ai...
