Tales of the Ketty Jay
I'm not very familiar with the plan of the game, but it sounds a little steampunky. (The whole airships, flying cities thing). The only book series in such a setting I've read is the titular Tales of the Ketty Jay, which was a fantastic read. :)

So, yes, I think this is something I would be interesting in. There's no mention of who you play as, is it pregenerated characters, customizable with skill trees and the whole thing or do you rather play as the 'ship'?

I mean, as an rpg it would make sense to go ashore and speak with people and such, but... yeah, not sure what this game aims at yet, but it could be pretty cool.

Yes, I'm rambling.

how is that book series you were talking about? Lately, I have been itching to sit down with a cup of peppermint tea late at night and just read a good book. I just need a good book.

The first book in the series is Retribution Falls.

It's somewhat firefly-ish, if you ever saw that series. (If you didn't, do. That should be priority #1.).

From the amazon blurb:
"Sky piracy is a bit out of Darian Frey’s league. Fate has not been kind to the captain of the airship Ketty Jay—or his motley crew. They are all running from something. Crake is a daemonist in hiding, traveling with an armored golem and burdened by guilt. Jez is the new navigator, desperate to keep her secret from the rest of the crew. Malvery is a disgraced doctor, drinking himself to death. So when an opportunity arises to steal a chest of gems from a vulnerable airship, Frey can’t pass it up. It’s an easy take—and the payoff will finally make him a rich man.

But when the attack goes horribly wrong, Frey suddenly finds himself the most wanted man in Vardia, trailed by bounty hunters, the elite Century Knights, and the dread queen of the skies, Trinica Dracken. Frey realizes that they’ve been set up to take a fall but doesn’t know the endgame. And the ultimate answer for captain and crew may lie in the legendary hidden pirate town of Retribution Falls. That’s if they can get there without getting blown out of the sky."

thank you my good fellow :)
Also, Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve. Lots of airships in that series.

Great book suggestions! I was really inspired by the obscure "Free-Wrench" series by Joseph Lallo (https://www.amazon.com/Free-Wrench-Joseph-Lallo-ebook/dp/B00LULTSF6). A friend who knows the author suggested it to me and I honestly couldn't put it down after the first book!

Sky Trader definitely has Steampunk leanings. As far as the RPG aspects, you do have the ability to customize your character (mostly for dialog), but there is currently no provision to move around outside of your airship. I dabbled with this a bit, but there are a million knock-on issues that must be considered if "dismounted" movement is allowed. Maybe in Sky Trader 2 :).
