Custom Keybinding
Greetings dear constructors,

our goal is to construct the perfect construction. So I share some donuts with you guys. Eat them all and listen to me.

Building a house is pretty complicated and very microstuff is going on. Back the days, when we used PS/PC to construct for our mafia buddies, there were no standards for keyboard and controller layouts. Remember when you were forced to move your character with the arrow keys? Every game developer had different bindings because they wanted to invend a standard.

But all of them... all of them... were wrong. Instead of inventing new systems for everyone they invented Dubstep and Marvel Studios, because they knew... they just couldn't do it. They're not made to be excellent. They ended up being B-Graders.

Blabla, Donuts, blabla..

In my opinion the controls are pretty outdated and it breaks my fingers everytime I want to micro manage my workers. Constructor shouldn't be the new Starcraft (but hey, did someone ever came up with this idea? go go power rangers!) but it should be playable for people who also play other economic games.

I hardly miss camera controls via WASD, grouping with STRG+1... F1 is reserved for menues. I know that some guys love the old controls, also do the new guys. Why not giving some customizing or at least templates for binding controls?

My english is bad. Pretty bad. I know. I grew up in a house with a cement factory next to me. And we didn't had isolated windows, nor a pc or a dwarf in our garden. We just had to work hard on the tenant supplies. Sorry for that.

I also ordered a tree. Three years ago. Still waiting. We don't want to make kids the old fashioned way. We buy magazines! We know our potencial! :presidente:

Hello, Pamster. How are you? :)

Interesting read in the form of a tenant! Unfortunately, at this point in time there are no plans to add custom keybinds to Constructor! :( It's something we've discussed several times before but has not really progressed beyond that stage.

Bahhh I hate middle mouse to move camera, I prefer to have one of the side buttons, Please implement custom keybinds

As this is something that comes up every so often, we will again discuss it as something additional to implement this year along with some other intuitive changes that we would like to include. :)

Happy to say that as of the next update you will be able to scroll with the thumb buttons on your mouse. :) It is a stopgap measure for the time being, but we will set aside some time to look at this in greater detail once we have dealt with everything else.

The current plan is to allow for them to be rebound without relying on special preset control schemes which may not suit everyone. However, we will also need to make sure everything plays nicely with each other which is not always as simple as it seems. Often times you will change one thing, and the next thing you know you've broken something else. I believe this[media.tenor.co] animation explains it very well. :fhappy:

Hello BrightPaw, it would be nice to consider modern mice have a lot of buttons you can use. In the same idea, customed keys on the keyboards would be sweet too. And why not adding some scroll bars for a best control, as you master the tax income, just like in Windows with clicking interactions.

Could I put forward one other suggestion, I always have a game controller plugged into my PC (as I'm sure many others do) when playing this game I use the mouse / keyboard but it only shows the controlls for the gamepad, could there be an option in game to turn off controller so it shows just the mouse/keyboard prompts in game.

One step ahead of you. :) This function (on the internal build) is currently bound to K, but we will likely also add it to the control options as well. We felt that being able to quickly toggle between the two shortcuts (as you may still want to use the gamepad) was something that would be more ideal, as opposed to outright ignoring the input from the gamepad.

I'm hoping that the ability for custom key bindings are added to the game too. I personally miss WASD not controlling the camera as it does in many, many other games.

You can already remap keys! We added this in the "Handing You The Keys! Update"

To remap the various shortcuts in the game (even camera controls for WASD scrolling) go into the "Config" section of the options menu. You should see an option to "Re-configure Keys".

Another handy trick: hold SHIFT whilst placing buildings. You can then continue to place building sites of the same building without having to constantly go back and click the buildings again!

I forget how to build level 5 beach house, what are the prerequisites again? I've upgraded the steel yard but they're still not available.

Level five houses are unlocked once you have a built three different level four houses. :)

EDIT: Oh, and just in case, you can build Commissions once you have produced Building Plans using a level 5 tenant.
