Hi Mark. Hope you're well. :)
It is a bit different from both of those games.
We have a series of six story-type missions which consist of multiple stages as well as the original classic game modes from the 1997 version of Constructor.
Additionally, during a game you will be given specific missions by the Council depending on the state of the level or your current progress. In some ways you could consider it similar to the emergencies in Theme Hospital or a visit from a VIP, but only just. :)
One example of a Council Mission is if your rival has too many Thieves or their Thieves are stealing too many things, then you will be asked to deal with them. Another Council Mission might request that you deal with a cockroach infestation on a particular estate. I think this is the most unpopular Council Mission. :)
There are also complaints from your tenants that you may receive for various reasons. An example is if your tenants are paying rent and you have not spent money upgrading their rooms, or if you have upgraded all but one of their rooms.
Regarding the classic game modes you can choose the following:
Financial Conquest - Raise $1,000,000 in 40 years and you must not have any debts.
War - Wipe out your opponents using any means necessary within 40 years. This mode does not have Tenant Complaints or Council Missions enabled.
Egomania - You must build the Pyramid Special Commission within 40 years.
Utopian State - You must have three of each tenant in your town and their happiness must be greater than 90%. This must be completed with 40 years.
World Domination - You must own at least one building on each estate within 40 years.
Build, Build, Build - Build for 1,000 years. This mode is best suited to getting used to the game and it is recommended that you start a game on this mode without any AI opponents if you have never played Constructor or its sequel Street Wars (also known as Mob Rule).
If you are unsure if the game is for you please download and try the demo first. It is lacking a lot of the newer things we have added in updates for the game, but the tutorial + timed free-play should be enough for you to decide if you like the game or not before you commit. :)
If you have further questions please let me know. I will answer as soon as I can, although at the moment I am pre-occupied with getting things sorted for the Plus version.
All the best,
It really sounds like an interesting game. I'll try the demo!
Regarding the store page, it does need a little TLC! Will look into adding a little more information to it tomorrow. :)
EDIT: Oh, I should add that the tutorial will end in a... unique way. You will know it when it happens (unless it is a crash in which case that is not the unique way), and there is nothing to worry about because it is meant to end that way!
There is also a new mission mode, 6 new missions that allows you to play it like a story, giving you objectives and steps to be done. Each mission is unique and will test your skills.
Anyway, I'm seriously considering purchasing this. I remember buying this game in it's original yellow and black cardboard box but never being able to play it. I really missed out back then.
The only cons I can think of are:
- Lack of steam cloud support, I'll have to find a solution for this as I often switch between my PC and laptop.
- The game detected my xbox360 controller which is always plugged into my PC. The result was that the tutorial showed me the controller buttons instead of the keyboard and mouse keys. But that wasn't a big deal as I could guess which keys to use.
- Graphics seem kind of pixelated at certain zoom levels, but I can live with that. It's certainly good enough. I really like the graphics and sound design of this game.
Thank you for the feedback! See below:
We can look at setting up Steam Cloud support at some point in the future. - Looking into this now. However, for now you can find the save files in %appdata%. If you copy the System 3 folder to your laptop and place it in %appdata% you will be able to continue from where you left off.
The controller is one of the things which we addressed in the release version. You can press the "K" key to force keyboard shortcuts to be displayed. Although, I will mention that the majority of shortcuts can be remapped in the release version, this being one of them. We found it to be more reliable to allow toggling between the display of the different shortcuts.
Unfortunately, we cannot do much about the graphics as they are all stored as 2D sprites, and zooming is achieved by stretching or shrinking the assets over a given area to give the impression of zooming in/out.
I am happy that you enjoyed what you were able to play and I hope that you did not experience too many issues with the demo version!
Kindly,
Hi Aaron G. How are you?
Encountering one bug does not make the game a buggy mess. It is understandable that crashes are not a pleasant experience, but it is not a reason to be rude. We are happy to help anyone who is experiencing issues.
Back to your issue, this is actually the first time we are hearing about any people crashing when upgrading the Living Room in the tutorial. Was there a specific part of the tutorial at which this happened for you?
I have moved the thread you created earlier into the bug report sub-forum could you please follow up there?
Thanks!
Kindly,
It's not as buggy a mess as your English is.
EDIT: Actually, this isn't a fair comment to make. I find absolutely 0 bugs with this game now. The System 3 team have done an amazing job of fixing any and all bugs they've been told about.
Your English, however is still a massively buggy mess.
System 3 so far did an amazing job on the game, they are hearing their fans and fixing the bugs, and at the same time working on new things for us.
If you find a bug then report it, there is no use in yelling like that.
