Hello, rav. How are you today? :)
I will begin by saying that a lot of the negative reviews are based on the launch version of the game which we admit was a little rough around the edges! However, we are continuing to improve on it with new additions.
Please keep in mind that the free demo (should you try it) does not have the latest changes to the code but it should suffice for a little test - though, we should consider updating it at some point when they add that mystical 8th day to the week...
Examples:
These are just some of the things which are different. For the most part, you will still have the original experience. We even have the old 3-click building method super duper, amazing, and oh so precise classic building method which can be changed in the control options!
EDIT: Oh, and yes, the original building music, character voices, and sounds are all in the game (with a little retouching)! This is in addition to voiced tenant complaints as well as narration for certain events such as council missions. :)
You can buy the game by clicking on this nifty button. Thanks, technology! http://store.steampowered.com/app/579020/Constructor/
EDIT [14/10/2017]: Removed link to giveaway thread as the giveaway has been concluded for quite some time since this thread was last visited.
I bought it on the day of release, and sure, it did have a few bugs, I won't lie about that, but I loved the game on PS1 and played it religiously, probably got more hours than some of my steam titles today. It was a little rough and multiplayer is still more or less a work in progress, but it's great for the nostalgia, it's clean, its crisp, it's beautiful, and for all intents and purposes, it's exactly like the PS1 version, but beautifully remade, with a few extra quality of life changes.
Oh, not to mention a few other new things like the DLC provides.
It's definitely worth a purchase!
By the way, BrightPaw: 'Old' on the 3-click setting sounds kinda negative. Change it maybe to 'classic'?
I don't draw any negative connotation from the term 'old'! Then again, I am positivity incarnate so what do I know?!
It's not worth the price, you could play to the old version and the experience would be very close to this new one. Yes the graphics are better and you don't have to use a DOSBOX to play it and that's about it.
is this a remake of the old game? I remembered it and I would like to buy it
Hello, Moroder. Hope you're well.
It looks like you've already bought the game (the icon is next to your name) so you've probably figured out that it is indeed a remake of the original Constructor. There are a few key differences such as the AI now being able to attack each other. See below for a quick rundown of some of the differences (refer to the patch notes for a more detailed list):
Have a wonderful day.
Hi, Doogerie. Hope you're well. :)
Unfortunately, we need to get around to updating the demo as it is far from indicative of the game's current state. For example, in the demo we use MP4 for the video, but with the full game we have switched to Bink which offers a much smoother experience especially when trying to go between rooms/characters really quickly.
Additionally, in the demo the tutorial can get stuck at certain points which aren't really an issue in the full game due to the fixes. You do get a taste of the game, but you're also missing out on certain options which are in the full game (see my above post for the relevant features).
The sound cutting out may be related to either the fact that certain fixes aren't in effect in the demo version, or if you're referring to when you build stuff, it may also be related to the audio frequency settings in your system sound options. We are not experiencing it at our end except in the aforementioned circumstances. :(
Glad you still found it enjoyable, though. :)
Like already knowing what i have to do but waiting until the narrator finished his sentences on what i have to do until i can continue to the next phase. This was also why i didnt repeat the tutorial after i got stuck, i had to endure the narration for another half hour.
Also i was sad i couldnt play anything else beside the tutorial.
Why is that? At least 2 missions or so could have been enough to convince me.
When you finish the tutorial you are able to play a 12 minute game which for most is enough to experience what the demo has to offer.
As pakitoch has mentioned, you can speed up the narration but it's actually with the CTRL key! Unfortunately, you have to be careful in the demo how quickly you do things as the demo tutorial is a bit iffy compared to what's in the final release. :( We do need to update the demo at some point as that is no doubt also reflecting poorly on the final product, but it may be some time before we have the time to merge the fixes with the demo version.
