So first and for most, multiplayer is pretty much what you would imagine to put it. You play up to 3 other people including yourself and compete in building and holding the strongest construction empire. There are different game modes you can play such as financial conquest which the first player to reach 1 million dollars within 40 years wins the game. You can also just play a free mode which allows all of you guys to do anything it takes to win. Later in the game, you can recruit mobster who are consider your "attacking units". You can also construct undesirable abodes which once constructed you can have them to do "undesirable actions" that can sabotage the enemy team. There is no team play in this game, however, casual alliance is a thing, meaning you can't set the game to be locked 2vs2 team but you can make truce to whoever. At least that is what me and my friends did, playing the original game. I highly recommend if you are looking for something different that falls under the category of city-building strategy sim game and if you and your friends are wanting to have fun.
There's also a GoG version of the original, which is cheap as 5 bucks. Grab yourself a copy and try the game out yourself! its worth it, trust me.
The game got a steep learning curve I must admit. It takes time to learn and it can possibly be overwhelming but it become as easy as riding a bicycle once you get the hang of it. If you got the game man, let me know! I like to play with people since AI's do get boring pretty much (they have a certain gameplay they always follow due to AI scripting.) Ask questions too. I claim myself a veteran who knows much about the game.
