Conquest: Frontier Wars

Conquest: Frontier Wars

No in-game audio
I have audio for the credits and movies. But go into the game--the menus or on a mission--and there is no audio. I tried installing the all_codec_for_cfw_and_c2-vu mod in the game folder to no avail. Still no sound.

Hi

Hm, this is very strange. Are you sure you installed it right? The fix should work.

I installed it correctly. I downloaded the mod into my game folder, unzipped it, and then ran the exe file. Then went back to Conquest to find I still had no sound. So I redownloaded it, unzipped it, and ran the exe file. Went back to Conquest--still no sound.

The mod simply doesn't work.

This is what you downloaded, right? http://www.moddb.com/mods/conquest-2-frontier-wars-forever/downloads/all-codec-for-cfw-and-c2-vu

If yes, then I will let the modder that created it know of this problem, he could possable help more.

Yes, that is the URL I downloaded from. That is the mod file I installed.

I've also checked the integrity of the game's files and have checked the ini files to make sure the default sound settings are active. File integrity is 100%, and the ini file is good. I simply have no sound outside of the movies and credits. Also I've noticed that the banter between characters in the mission briefings is missing or running so fast that I cannot notice it. There is no sound in the main menu or in a briefing or on a mission.

I've also checked the Options Menu. Sound is active.

My audio works fine for other games and videos, so I'm pretty sure it's the game that's the issue.

If you have Windows 7 or higher, then the file "All Codec for CFW and C2-VU.exe" must be run with administrator rights.
Perhaps your system blocks the installation of the necessary codecs and registry entries. In the archive, along with the patch, there is a text file describing which files are copied and where they should be registered in the registry. Check whether it really is.

@allgrey I reinstalled the patch with administrator rights and the necessary codecs are not showing up in the archive.

The installer evidently is not installing the files.

@shadowgamer
The required codecs are installed along this path:
WINDOWS \ System32 \ iac25_32.ax - (Indeo® Audio Software Version 2.05.54)
WINDOWS \ System32 \ ir41_32.ax - (Intel Indeo® Video 4.5 Version 4.51.16.03)
WINDOWS \ System32 \ ir50_32.dll - (Intel Indeo® video 5.10 Version R.5.10.15.2.55)
And registers them in this registry branch:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Drivers32]
"msacm.iac2" = "iac25_32.ax"
"vidc.iv41" = "ir41_32.ax"
"vidc.iv50" = "ir50_32.dll"
The system blocks installation of any files in the Windows folder. In this case, during the installation, you must disable UAC (User Account Control).
