Latest patch makes hands disappear
I spawn in a hallway that says "place hand here" and shows posters on how to walk.

My controllers / hands wont show up or respond. I know they're working because they show up when I press the home buttons.

Anyone else having this problem or know a fix for it? I've tried a different pair of controllers and restarting steam vr, playing a different game that worked and coming back to this one. Still an issue. (I'm using a Vive headset)

EDIT:
So a working solution for now, to get your hands back ended up being:

- Deleting a file called "externalcamera.cfg"

Which you can find by right clicking GORN in your steam library, properties, local files, browse local files.

Note that here, it's not LIV directly causing this issue - the presence of the externalcamera.cfg file in the Gorn folder activates the old SteamVR External Camera script.

Unfortunately, this older script was set up for a SteamVR world where trackers don't exist.
This means that in LIV, you have to change the "Virtual Camera" to "Controller" for GORN to correctly capture.

Now SteamVR can see three controllers, so sometimes, the left or right hand "becomes the camera", which makes the game look broken. There's a few other input/device related issues here that exist because of this quirk.

It's very likely there are errors being logged, so if anyone having this issue could provide logs, that would be sweet:
  • Go to %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Free Lives\GORN\ (Paste into Win+R)
  • Grab the output_log.txt file, and copy into Pastebin[pastebin.com]!

The config file that you're deleting is preventing this script from running, and is a good solution to the problem.

Another solution would be to make sure you always set LIV's "Virtual Camera" back to "Tracker" after filming, and make sure LIV is closed if you don't want to use it.

I think that bit at the start is just related to gorn movement mode, which I've never tried and dont think I'd like. I just walked straight past it...
I'm unable to walk without hands or controller function, holding the touchpads or grips doesn't work.
Do you even see your controllers? and can you pull yourself with the GORN movement way? The hands stay replaced with controllers until you reach the end of the hallway.
BlackSmithStudios. I have the same problem with my oculus touch controllers.
Same thing happening here. Unable to play Gorn as a result.

I cant move and I do not see my controllers / hands in game. If I bring up the steam menus I can see my controllers just fine though.
Hey, we are currently looking into this issue. Because it's so isolated and we haven't been able to reproduce locally it's been a bit tricky to nail down. Some have reported that they did not have boundaries set up (ie haven't done room setup) and that that fixed the problem, but it was also not the case for all. Please try that and let us know if it resolves the issue for you.

Is room setup different from what the room overview option displays? I feel like that's already been set up. I can see the virtual walls inside the headset just fine.

I could try redoing the room setup later today if you think its the cause.
SteamVR doesn't offer a "room setup" action when using the Oculus since some time last year; I imagine this is part of the issue?

Edit: Forgot to say that I'm also experiencing this with my Oculus. SteamVR is at 1.2.10. Main branch of GORN.

Same here. No hands visible, no movement and cannot play the game at all. Really love Gorn, so this is pretty upsetting. :0\
I have been having this issue. Would being able to remotely test this be any help? IE would there be something I could do to let you debug this?

What we know:

Some people don't have hands appearing in GORN, although hands/controllers appear in other games. It does not seem to be limited to people with either an Oculus or Vive headset. Some oculus users have reported that setting up their boundaries does fix the issue. Vive users with similar problem say that doing room setup does not solve the issue.

These kinds of things usually involve some sort of weird interaction with a user setup and some incorrect assumption on our side. We don't ever 'switch off' the hands in GORN intentionally, so likely there is some bug or error during hand setup. I'm trying to figure out what users that have this issue might have in common so that we can start trying to narrow down a cause.

So, if you have this issue, can you please just let us know a) which headset you have b) if you have any weird peripheral devices (anything other than the VR set and a standard gamepad) c) if verifying the local cache does anything d) if you ever installed any GORN mods.

It's a bit of a guessing game until we can find something that the users have in common, but I'm sure we can get this fixed.
Oculus Headset, SteamVR version of GORN. Have tested it with the following SteamVR states (all with 2 touch controllers):
- no additional devices
- a gamepad
- a virtual controller driver (MixCast)
I can try re-setting up my tracking in the Oculus software and see what happens.

My 2 cents: it might be worth offering a "rollback" branch on Steam for folks hitting some of the issues introduced recently since we're fans of the game and want to keep using it :)
I have an Oculus Headset I also have LIV set up so it has a vive controller thing that shows up but that never mattered before.

I have redone the Oculus software. I can try and purge the cache.

Could it be LIV?
Baaa Im having the same problem. I cant play GORN anymore.
