Controllers not working

Update: Problem solved by reinstalling vcredist & directX from a different source and not the ones in the game folder. Can't promise it'll work for others, but it solved mine.

I have tried using both an XBOX One controller and Nvidia Shield Gamepad, and both have the same issue:

Up/Down in the main menu when the game starts works fine (activating the controller using the A-button). However, after that it wont let me select any menu option(like starting new game, or options/load game/quit) using the A-button or any other button for that matter.

Using windows 10 and a non-english(swedish) windows installation.

I can start the game using the keyboard, but mapped buttons like "U" to jump into the police car doesnt work. I can only rotate camera with JKL and using WASD to walk around. Going into options with the keyboard to change key-mapping = game hangs in the key-mapping screen and can't exit or select anything.

Is there anyone who it does work with? (Win 10 + XBOXone or Nvidia Sheld controller)

I don't know if this will help, but maybe try this?

After you launch the game, do not hit any other keys on your keyboard or move your mouse, as this defaults the controls to KB/M

To make sure the controller is selected, goto Settings > Control Configuration > Change Device > hit a button on the controller, it should default to that controller now

Not sure if that will hgelp you? Every so often when I launch the game, I hit a key on my keyboard by mistake and it defaults to KB/M, and I have to go through that routine to switch to my controller

Thanks for the tips. I gave them a try. However, cant do any changes at all inside control configuration as the game doesnt allow me to go up/down in the menus there(even with keyboard, when using keyboard as controller)

Tried starting game with win7/8 compatibility. Running as admin.. reboot.. reinstall dx. no success.

Ill keep trying to find solutions :) Got a frustrated 3yo son to sort it out for.

I had this issue and it was having two Xbox controllers connected at start up causing the issue. Turn off one of them until you get into the game. Then turn on the second controller and join
