RAAM is close to a traditional grappler but also has a lot of OTG hits and ways to keep the combos going. He's got stumpy normals so zoning is hard to deal with but he's scary as hell when he gets close.
Raam is the most pure grappler in the game. Unlike Hisako who is more of a hybrid character Raam's gameplan usually involves the main command grab (the light version has the longest range, the others do more damage but require you to be right next to the opponent). They also buffed his running grab to work on frame 1 instead of frame 5 (technically five times more useful now) so his options against zoners are a little less bad (keep in mind people can just jump to avoid the grab, like with all grapplers in games). He also has solid combos for his gameplay, and can also tag enemies with Kryll attacks to drain their health (they can remove it by hitting him though).
Raam's options against zoners is mostly the Kryll Shield specials and having a jumping heavy kick with long range, which is far from perfect but he's not completely powerless against them like most grapplers usually are. But he's still a grappler so always be in the opponent's face at all times if you can.
However, I can tell you that Raam is a horrifyingly good grapper.
Fastest command grab in the game, a damage over time, and his Instinct Mode piles on tons of potential damage onto the opponent that can be instantly cashed in if you complete even the briefest combo.
