according to maximillian dood this game is inferior on steam and just straight up better on windows/xbox

Well the windows version has crossplay with the xbox version which is where most of the player base is. So if you care about ranked and having more people to play with you should get the windows version. I got the Steam version because I don't care about online or ranked outside of games that I really care about like SF6. Games like this or UMVC3 I play only to practice combos.

The difference is that the steam version has crossplay with xbox and microsoft in everything except in ranked. Try to wait a few days until the new update releases to see if they make steam full crossplay, and if not and you care about ranked, get the microsoft one.

I would say the Steam version since it runs well and I heard someone says the Microsoft version has some optimization issues. But do beware; this may just happen only to me: every time I try to play online (casual and lobby mode); when the game is trying to connect to the Ultratech ranking ladder (this is required) it just crashes every time.

This was just clarified that sadly even the update won't fix that. According to Maximillian Dood its some old tech issue.

MS Store version has Ranked with XBOX, Steam only has Ranked with Steam and the stream clarified that this hasn't changed.

I am going to wait after the update drops. If their is no ranked via crossplay for steam, I might as well just play the gamepass version. Unless their is a resurgence of players in ranked on the steam version. Probably will consult with discord.

If you want to play ranked mode and grind ranks, get the Windows version. If you don't care about ranked and would rather have the game on Steam, get it on Steam.

This, you are limited regardless the version you buy.

Yes, we get the new version. On XBox / Windows store, there is a limited F2P version and the paid Definitive Edition. Here, we only have the paid version.

They confirmed Steam will be getting a F2P version when the update happens. But Ranked crossplay is only for Xbox/Windows Store versions.
