The timing is different for each linker, and the timing gets tighter the closer in strength the manual is to the proceeding linker. A heavy linker into a light manual has a large margin for error. A heavy linker into a heavy manual is much harder. A light linker into a light manual is something even high level players won't expect to nail every time.
*There might be a bit of wiggle-room here. This is how it's supposed to work in theory; with some characters I feel like I have to hit the manual a little before the linker animation ends, but I don't have good reflexes and there's a pretty big chance I'm imagining it.
