They will combo break a ton if you tend to only use one strength all the time. Try to mix up your combos with some light attacks. Since light attacks are riskier in combos, they tend to lock out from them.
ALWAYS bring a guardian. You'll have a lot of energy to give them, so there's no reason not to use them. The starting Psychic Breaker (giving you automatic combo breakers) is the perfect beginning one to start with. You can unlock more using astral gems, but save up for some healing packs for late game. My favorite one to use is the parry one.
You'll eventually get to a point where you have a ton of (hopefully) unspent astral gems. Spend them on a healing pack from the store once you have 900 or more and use them wisely. These will give you 5 or so 25% healers to use in the Barracks, and maybe 3 ressurection items. Try not to use these until end-game, where you've knocked out at least 2 Omens.
Don't feel discuraged on the Choose Your Own Adventure stuff. If it's your first time running through them, just pick the ones you would probably do first. The negativities from most of them aren't that severe save for ones that add more mimics. You'll see repeats on future runs.
Don't forget to end turns early if you need to heal characters. Sometimes that's the best option. Keep in mind that Gargos won't arrive until 3 or so continants are taken over, so if you're at a point where corruption is really low and your characters are about to die, you can afford to heal some boys up.
Oh and I know it seems kind of obvious, but you probably need to learn the basics of the game first before you can hop in on Shadow Lords. Try to practice in the game's arcade mode, or better yet, learn some stuff from the tutorial. Everything you need to know is in the Dojo.
TL;DR: Mix up your moves and combo strengths, always bring a guardian, spend gems on healing packs, end turns early to heal, learn the basics, and don't worry about the choose your own adventure stuff.
Sorry, I didn't think I would ramble on that much.

Imagine if someone tries to buy some microtransactions.........
Killer seems like the best value but it'll take forever to grind that . . .
On the other hand, I only have the starter - Ram
