It would be nice, but don't act like it's something they should do.
EDIT: https://www.gog.com/connect
Otherwise it would've been my pleasure to buy the game again on steam, just to support them.
Even more funny, EA games you bought on Steam can also be redeemed on Origin, and Ubisoft games probably do the same for some games lol. He pretty much picked the worst counter-examples.
I didn't say it doesn't happen, it's just not something they normally do. GOG doesn't normally let you get free GOG copies of any game you own on Steam that they sell.
GOG Connect is a feature that pops up from time to time and is totally dependent on the publishers of the games allowing the free GOG copy (which is why it's always limited in how long it's up for). So again it's nice when they do it (I certainly appreciate it), but it's not something that should be seen as an expectation.
EA stopped releasing games on Steam a long time ago and them giving players free copies on Origin was their way of getting people to try and jump to Origin from Steam. If anything it would be like Microsoft giving a free copy of Killer Instinct on Windows 10 to people who buy the Steam version to try and get them to jump to their store.
As for Ubisoft games when you buy them on Steam they require UPlay typically. So of course it's gonna work in the UPlay client. If Killer Instinct required you to use the Windows 10 Store client (or whatever they use) then yeah, they'd probably give you a free copy on Windows 10 too.
If I buy a UPlay game, though, I can't use that key to redeem a Steam copy (at least not that I've ever seen). Same goes with an EA game you buy through Origin.
Like I said getting a free Steam copy for owning the Windows 10 version would be incredibly generous, but don't act like it's something that they should feel obligated to do.
I mean, I DO agree with your point, but I was pointing out that you picked the dumbest examples to push the point forward. And it gets worse because you're repeating the same examples in other threads, which will usually result in other people pointing out the same thing if there's anyone remotely informed in the thread.
The Steam version has its problems as well.
The whole point I was making is not that UPlay or GOG or EA or whoever NEVER give free copies of games on their platform if you own it on Steam. My point was that you should never EXPECT to get them for free. It's a welcome gift, but should not be expected.
And as I pointed out earlier UPlay games bought through Steam HAVE to give buyers a copy through UPlay since UPlay is required to play the game. But if you buy a UPlay game through UPlay you don't automatically get it for free on Steam.
They should release the playerbase count for those who bought it in MStore to see who still plays the game today. I bet its less then a handfull, all because of the numerous problems the Win10 version has.
