Layups and shooting
Have they fixed the layups at all? I've still been missing WIDE OPEN layups, it's getting ridiculous now.

And any improvements on shooting? I don't understand how a good release (full white bar) misses 100% but a slightly late or slightly early is more likely to go in.. It makes no sense?

Do you time your layup release? There's still a "shot meter" for them like last year, it just doesn't show.

This might help for your 2nd question https://www.nba2klab.com/other/

Yea I time it. I've also had a glitch where I can see my shot meter for layups and I can see it's well timed... Idk

Then something's probably messed up for your layup rating and/or build, I've seen many ppl complaining about this but some of them just tapped the shot button to perform a layup.
I guess you could try messing around with all the layup packages, see if any of them is more consistent until they fix this

Even nba pros sometimes fails on layups, check the Shaqtin' a fool videos, there is plenty of those... But it's true it happens too often on nba2k18.
I usually miss all my layups but cause i don't want to make a layup and it triggers when i'm trying to use the back or side step for a pull-up. At first i thought it was for my layup rating, so i upgraded it to almost 80, still missing some opens.. i think i get more success trying on-traffic layups... may be you should wait for some contact to do the layup.

And not only layups are broken, my pure shot creator, 93 on mid range hits only between 10% - 20% on the "good release" shots on wide open situations. I know they wanted to do it more realistic but c'mon... it should be easier on the easy shots.

I know NBA players miss layups, but I'm missing at least 5-10 a game.. It's changed from 17 and I don't know why they did that, the layups were fine last year..

From what I've seen so far its broken for some people, but works fine for others. (regardless of skill)

i'm starting to think that stamina also affects a lot to the layup. Try them before and after doing the gatorade gym drills to boost your stamina or energy. The only thing that have in common my pg with my sf is not too high stamina and both misses layups too, but when i do the drills it seems to be way more effective for my characters and i miss less.

This could very much be true, maybe we can hit 2klabs up to test this!

Give it time. I'm a 6'5", 210lb Shot-Creating Playmaker. I couldn't hit a layup to save my career, for maybe 10-12 games. Then I remembered watching an Agent00 video in which he showed a tweet from a dev saying it's wise to cater to our players strengths in 2K18, and that excessive dribble moves will hinder us. I focused on D, and passing. All of a sudden, I noticed it. Watch for the movements. If your player reacts, let him move. More often than not, you only have to R2 (RT), and move towards the basket. It'll come, just be patient, and don't try so hard. Trust in your players strengths.

Yeah, career is a different thing, even on PRO IA defends pretty well cause they're just defending the inside. Increasing the difficulty IA defense and reaction is different and you can create more spaces. Is a bit harder cause they also react quicker and attack better but i also think the shooting goes better.
The problem comes on park and pro am. You can miss stupid easy layups or even dunks, i've seen a 6'11 PF with no defense under the basket just get rejected by the rim on a two hander... that's why i suggest to check the stamina and energy, i think you miss less easy shots when your stamina is high and you got the gatorade energy bonus earned on the gym.
