Replicating Higurashi's inspired signature background artwork - filters
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows how to replicating or could point me in the right direction on replicating the watercolors/horror like spooky atmosphere.

Just to point out, The Way We ALL GO influenced by Ryukishi07's "Creator of Higurashi" signature artstyle and it had it's own take on twist to it too. I was also inspired by that to do street like photography. I made a thread over there but I guess barely anyone goes over there :steamsad:

I can only find one thread based on Replicating Higurashi's signature artsyle.

I don't know exactly what was done to the backgrounds, but a couple of filters I know of that seem to do some things I observe in those backgrounds:

* Posterize: creates a small palette approximating the image's original colors, then adjusts each pixel's color to be the closest in that palette to its original color. Areas with similar color tend to be flattened as a result.
* Selective Gaussian blur: applies a Gaussian blur to each pixel whose difference from its neighbors is less than some threshold; all others are unchanged. Sharp edges and such are preserved, while smoother areas get blurred.

This isn't a signature art style or anything, it's just a cheap way of producing backgrounds for visual novels, Katawa Shoujo used the same method.
