IMP Mod
Is there a mod that will allow me to make my own Merc in the game?

I was looking for this also, I found this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ja2impact/

However, it does not seem to work. I think the current version is 1.13b, but the mod was for 1.13a...

Anybody have any suggestions?

That editor is for JA2 no JABIA. I'd love to find a merc creator I was bummed to find no custom merc in game,

Real shame, the lack of I.M.P is a huge blow to the immersion for me ;/ I have actually managed to get this "mod/utility" to work (didn't have to install anything, but I suppose it is about the NET version), but it isn't really the same.

Sorry, got things a bit mixed up (human multitasking gone wrong...)

I think the site I actually intended was
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jabia-mod-tools/
or
http://boards.jaggedalliance.com/index.php?/topic/796-mod-institute-for-mercenary-profiling-version-3/

I suppose this is the one that worked for Epicurean as well.

Inspired by Epicurean's success, I also got the merc editor running now (after a few error message windows, can't be sure it's really working, though).

Although a nice tool, I also agree it's too simple to qualify as a substitute since you don't seem to be able to add a new merc, but only edit/substitute the ones already existing in the game.

I think we need to stick with modded JA2 for now and hen wait for Jagged Alliance: Flashback, see

dalidadda,

How did you get the IMP mod working? What version of game were you using? I cannot get it to work right, ver 1.13 JABIA

Thank you!

farmboy1536,

This has been a common question, so I created "Creating a custom merc" page on the wiki about it.

So yeah, fnally figured this out for BIA, now applying to Crossfire. Changed Static to my alter ego, first in the configs, main_characters file. That one was easy, added the clothes, weapons and stats I wanted. Changing the interfact character.txt was a b-otch, but I did finally manage to recompile, replaced the CTX file, and it all worked. I'm not a programer, so figuring out the comands I needed to type, in what order, (and replacing "somefile" with "character", duh), was my main pain, but after a night of research and screwing around, I got it.

My next plan is to record my own voice files, at least the phone ones, and see if I can upload a pic that will work. If not, Static's voice and acknowlegements are fine as is, close enough ;)

Thanks for the help S'n'P!

Glad that you got it working. If you think the instruction are unclear, you can send me an edited version and I can incorporate your suggestions into the wiki.

Just not easy for a total computer dunce like me to figure out, I had several "duh" moments and spent lots of time re-rereading. I just needed a hold your hand version, lol, but the sense of accomplishment post mod was much greater after I figured it all out this way.....

I ran into lots of issues trying to use Flo's slot, but I was changing sex, body types, assigning a different voice/text speech, etc., and it was really screwing with things. I never use the more expensive mercs, so I lightly moded Static's slot, and it worked much much better. The pic was fine, just changed eye color, adjusted the stats to what my old IMP chars were generally at. changed level to one, dropped hiring costs to 1000, added perfered camo and weapons, and it was good to go, with still no problems.

I did this using the Realistic Rebalancing mod. No programming experience required. Just have to modify one of the txt files that comes with that mod. I've made a thread on this topic if someone's still looking for a way to do so.
