Best island for sandbox?
Which island did you guys build your city on? I want one with lots of unique features (a waterfall, volcano, colonial Fort, ancient ruins), a nice beach, and some good mineral deposits.

I always do a random one and generate until I get something I like.

If you do the Campaign you get to know a few islands. I found one especially good but never did keep the name. It has about twelve mineral deposits and can grow everything and has a couple good sand areas on the shore for tourism. If I find the name I will edit this post to include it but it is important IMO that the campaign is done. It's very rewarding.

Promised edit: Puerto Angelico is the name of the island. I hope I got that spelled right. :)

afaik oro translates to gold from spanish :D
so a better one'd be: Gold Harbour

I'm also chasing a good island for sandbox play. I'd like a gold deposit and I'd like to be able to grow all the cash crops (sugar tobacco coffee) Enough trees for logging too. I've played Puerto de Oro and Peurto Angelica already. I have all the dlc so i have those maps too. i don't like the random maps - they never seem to generate enough deposits.

Any suggestions?

I made one with maximised building area (mostly flat). good for long games but bad for tsunamis!

I just turned disasters off because they were more annoying than eventful.
