Tourism basics & fundamentals.
So, from my research for having an Tourism industry, it seems that Tourism should only be:

- Only for sustaining your Treasury until your next Freighter arrives.
- A fun side project to undertake once you get some actual moolah in.
- Not a sustainanle industry in the long run versus tried and true business.

With those in mind, what are the basics?

You seem to have already realised tourism is useless, what else is there to know?
There really isn't much you can do besides place the dock, airport, and some hotels. Don't bother placing most attractions, tourists will eventually end up wandering over to the entertainment buildings meant for Tropicans anyway, no point in having buildings that Tropicans can't use. The Blimp and Hot Air Balloon atractions are usefull, and the Botanical garden raises beauty so you might want to place that as well.

As far as money is concerned though each person working in tourism is someone who could be working in a more profitable job
Well, like I said, it's a fun side distraction and I'd like to experience running a tourism gig for the heck of it. :3

Look in the guides section, someone wrote a tourism guide just for you!!. On my current island I am also trying to use tourism alot more. You dont need much education as most jobs are non educated. Airport will need x2 college females. Job happiness will slowly get lower since the avg job wage will be alot lower later in the game.

I started small with 1 hotel, natives village, cocktail bar and a beachsite. Seems the tourists are on a clock as they tour each site one after the other. Will be adding more as cash is availabale.

It's not exactly awful, but it's not especially great either. It really is mostly just for keeping the treasury in the positives between shipments.

Like said, it is possible to rely exclusively on tourism, but it's a bit slow-going and not as profitable.

Personal favourite attraction is the beach site. Cheap, only uses 1 person, and it rakes in lots of money.

Try not to add too many attractions for each tourist type, or you'll end up with attractions not being used at all.

The biggest reason why I tend to have tourism is because I have to create female-specific jobs or else I get lots of female criminals. The other options are construction offices and farms/ranches (and to some extent, entertainment buildings). The profit from farms and ranches is less than what you get from tourism and they also require teamsters.

I just make lots of hotels. The more you have the more tha attractions are filled.

Lol, I love it when people say this or that is "useless."
Okay, let's get this discussion on first gear.

What's the correct Entry Fee to set for (any and all) Attractions? Can't seem to find that magic number that keeps people visiting but at the same time making me money.

I read somewhere that they pay x5 of what your local Tropicans pay to enter, any fancy up to verify that?

You can check the almanac. It depends how much money the tourists have, and that changes depending on difficulty settings for example.

Entry fee seems kinda weird.
I used to think that the "spending limit" just meant that they wouldn't spend more than that much money on a single attraction, and wouldn't enter if it's set higher than that number...but now i think that's just an indication of how much they spend at an attraction full stop.

Whatever it is, one thing's for sure: having an abundance of cheaper attractions is much worse than having a single expensive attraction. They just seem to go to whatever has the highest quality, and then leave the island.

Anyway, every tourist has at least 20. Usually around the start it's around 30 to spend.

Also, Scenic Outlooks are amazing. They don't require any employees, can fit anywhere, and require very little upkeep. I usually start my tourism maps by building at least 8. So long as you don't build a lot of ugly buildings (eg. very few factories, no Tenements, maybe no Apartments, only Houses, Villas, and Modern Apartments), you can essentially just plop down Scenic Outlooks everywhere and never go into debt.

I only play the tourist route and it works for me, best first my custom avatar. Definitely not useless, it's stable income over time without having to wait on frieghters - on the opposite, I find the game too easy now, as I always follow the same scheme and have no problems winning :/
