Modern Times Worth it?
I feel like it's a bit pointless to invest in Modern times since Tropico is a Government/City builder based on modern economics. It just seems like re-skins as the years go one plus a few extra wonders and stuff.

Only if you are starving for more tropico4 and tired of the based game, imo.
I'm playing through the modern times now and it's not fun, it feels like a chore actually.
3 missions in and campaign showers you with time limited tasks. You have a lot of time to complete them usually, but it still is a timer on your nerves.
Theres another annoying timer in a new campaign: every year or so a new building will be unlocked. Usually an upgrade of vanilla, but ugly and expensive. You are forced to build new ones. For example markets, they are replaced with supermarket ten times the cost, require educated workers and you have no choice but to build them.
Some things are gamebreaking. I had an 'export fish' mission, but new fish farms production just won't count toward the progression meter.
As other people stated, new building rob tropico 4 of its banana-republic looks, turning it into a soulless stell and glass city-sim.

Why do yall refuse to use mods? I dont get it.
Also by adding timers the game stops being super easy, like thats clearly a good thing

Market Places require educated workers as well, so its no change. The only change is it now has 4 job positions instead of just 1, but you can always close off 3 job slots, and it doesn't affect how the building works.

Market places aren't particularly useful in the first place unless you wanted to import food.

Supermarkets actually provide higher food quality, making them much better.

Thank you guys for your advice! I may give this a try as it actually does seem to change the game a bit. I might do it as this game is heavily car reliant. The mechanics behind modern times work like the the Modern United States.

They are very useful.
For example, one of my Islands, I have a large population centre near my tourist area, but this area is far away from where all my farms are.
A marketplace allows my citizens to get food without having to travel to the other side of the island.

Half of Modern Times is ok, the other half is not that good. So it kind of equals out to zero.

You aren't really missing out if you just stick with the base game.

Yeah, not really how that works.
Some makes the game better, so is worth it, some does not really add anything to the game.
That doesn't equal zero.

Sure it does, when it subtracts. I actively dislike portions of it which makes the game worse.

I know, I know. Just get mods to remove everything Modern Times adds then problem solved.

Or, you know, just don't bother in the first place.

You don't need mods, just deactivate the DLC's you don't want. Problem solved.
