Currently (again) I have been idle with the progress, though I am around 800 waves in.

It should be in the forum, you could achieve it the easy way and do it on the easiest setting.

I am not sure how glory points work, i.e. is it a percent chance after every encounter to get one, is it some hidden value that gets added to every encounter and given to you after a threshold?
Do you have any insight into how glory points work or strategies for getting more?
And yes it is a grind to get them for the upgrades, and the upgrades increase accordingly or exponentially, depending on what your upgrading.
The options purchased with GP are nothing that will overbalance your party, but give you better lifestyle things, such as map shadow/sunlight cover, store item limits etc.
Don't over stress on the GP element as you will earn it through the game play.

I have found at a minimum that upgrading blue items is a must otherwise you are at the whim of the store and drops.
GP is glory points not gold points. Gold points can be a bit of a bottle neck when you go to upgrade your items as it can get fairly expensive.
At present the ECL characters enter the game at the ECL level, so an ECL +2 you can only introduce conce the party is level 2

100%. This is a really fun way to play, especially if you want to start as a melee character on Nightmare where the bonuses are not in your favor early on.
