Any news on random map generation?
I did a search for "Random Map" and I see people asking about this. Have the developers mentioned something about including RMG?

I think this can give the game nearly infinite replay value.

If you mean a random campaign map for adventure mode, then yes. They have said that they want to do that when they work on the adventure mode again. I don't think it will happen soon, however. They still want to add a number of monsters and prestige classes first.

Dungeons are already randomly generated, and I have not heard any mention of creating randomly generated combat maps.

I can understand them wanting to add more content before they commit to Random Map Generation. As long as they have it on their roadmap, I'm content.

I think more classes and monsters can wait, the game needs random world and simulated towns (quests and shops based on what is around the town and the current situation)

Agreed.

Have to admit, I came back after two years hoping campaign map generation got some love. Guess I'll hit the snooze alarm and check back in two more years. :)

That's why I play Heroes of Might and Magic 3 24 years later - because of the Random Map Generator and the massive modding community. If Low Magic Age had a RMG (with settings for customization) and a Map Editor and Scenario Creator, this will increase the game's replay value at least thousand-fold.

Last time I played, which was in July 2022, it was like this - each playthrough basically give you the same map and the same story, it even starts you in the same place. I can't speak for the smaller details like whether towns are the same or randomized, but the overworld map IS INDEED the same every time.

It kind of got boring to me the first time and after that I haven't played much after. The backbone of the game has some serious potential, but without Random Map Generation and a Map Editor, the game's replay value is very small.

Think of it like The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind or Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning or Dragon Age Origins - it's the same map and the same story and you can play them so many times before it gets too boring and repetitive to keep going.

So for the time being it is the same map, I'm not sure 100% of the developers' stance on RMG, but if this is a big issue for you, you may have to wait a lot. For me this game reminds me a lot of my most favorite game Heroes of Might and Magic 3 without the town control and the reason why I play HoMM3 since 1999 to this day is because it has Random Map Generation and Map Editor so I can play the game forever without getting bored. If Low Magic Age gets those two features one day, it will be perfect.

Be aware the adventure mode was an after thought that has barely been developed. Most of us are hoping the dev starts concentrating on that mode soon.

I remember playing a very early version or demo of the game where all it had was some custom battles. I remember it had something like an "arena" where you "progress" by completing battles and new battles being unlocked and during that time your characters could level up.

But since they are being inspired by D&D, this game was bound to have an Adventure Mode to be taken more seriously. So far in the last few updates I've seen them adding new races and classes for the most part.

Hopefully they will add Random Map Generation and Map Editor. I'm guessing if that happens, the whole map style and appearance will change as it currently looks kind of basic and not in sync with the way sprites for characters and monsters look like.
