When is trading goods worth it?
Currently I can really see no reason to trade and several why not to trade.

Let's look at why people might think it's has some value.
- Gaining gold
- reputation boost +1 (I think)
- umm I think that's it

Why I think it is actually anti-productive
- you can actually gain more gold (and items, exp) in dungeons. What you make it trading, at least where I'm at in the game is really nothing special
- trade licenses cost money, thus how long will it take to get back to equality with money spend on trade license when trading? Seems a while.
- encumbrance! Trade goods are usually very heavy and encumbrance is my #1 issue in the game and demoralizing me when I have to consonantly drop stuff to keep party moving. I think something here should be adjusted. Don't we have carts to move these trade goods in the abstract?
- not a good use of your time. Once again very little reward to trading and much better ways to spend your time in the game to accomplish gaining gold and reputation.

So unless somebody can correct me on why it makes any sense to trade goods, I'm just going to avoid this part of the game until it gets some more attention and patching.

I also tend to avoid it for now, mostly because it feels a bit clunky to gather information. I can imagine, however, that some people very much enjoy the exploration and discovery associated with the trade system.

I think that the developers have some plans to improve the trade system, but that won't happen until after they have implemented more classes, races, and game features and then returned to working on the campaign mode.

Early on in the game I tended to buy goods at a low price whenever I visited a town and didn't plan on immediately going into a dungeon, just for some extra cash.
But the gains are indeed minor compared to what you make from a dungeon or completing missions.

minor and in most cases you're carrying a lot of extra weight if you don't watch how heavy some of these items. First thing I'd change in a patch is abstract the weight of trade goods to zero and assume you have extra horse/carts to carry it.

In the 4 links in the post you will find one specifically with regards to trading, highly suggest you read all 4 guides as a lot of work went into them.

And BigSexy, the reputation boost is gained if it was a quest otherwise it is a standard trade transaction.
