Stuck in Paris excavation

I'm in the Paris basement excavation site @ 85% thru the game. I've made a plaster copy of the key, dipped it in the paint, and substituted it for the real one on the key chain. I'm supposed to be turning down the thermostat so the guard will put on his gloves, but each time I do, the guard does nothing. I can't give the bogus key to the guard until he does. What am I missing?

If you've turned down the thermostat - (box opposite the stairs to the outside) you could try (if not done so previously) talking to the guard about the locked room he's guarding. If he still hasn't put his gloves on - you could either go back into the toilet or trying to go outside and he'll then ask you for the keys.

Hello, you need to right-click on the thermostat in order to continue the disussion with the guard. Hope it helps
