Patrician IV: Steam Special Edition

Patrician IV: Steam Special Edition

I have Patrician IV steam gold, and rise of a dynasty.
As part of a Bundle, I'm thinking about starting on Rise of a Dynasty but is there any real difference in game play or does it just look different?

I have the same question, i used to play a lot of Patrician 3 back when it was new, i find the 4th iteration pretty the same thing which is fine, then i look at Rise of a Dynasty, whats the difference? What does it add?

The most insteresting thing is that when you keep the kings happy for long time they call you to help them open a new route to cities in land. So, begins new comerce routes by land.

I gotta say after tinkering on Patrician 4 for a single day, I went back to Patrician 3 again. P4 as a standalone isn't really bad but compared to PIII, it is a massive downgrade in every conceivable way. The only things which can honestly say they have imprved the game is in the diversity of ship designs andjust barely the graphics, but only if you buy the expansion pack with the basic game too.

I've played Patrician IV extensively prior to transitioning to Steam. Dare I say, obsessively, with standalone database calculations for managing production levels, population demand, and inventory levels. I was excited to see Rise of a Dynasty available with new cities and the land route format. I was disappointed to find the execution of the land routes to be fairly buggy in relation to load all/empty all of various resources from town to town. Sometimes they would drive back and forth from the same town just carting the same contents back and forth (I quadruple checked my settings to make sure I didn't accidentally have both load/unload set for the same resource in the same town). No idea why what works so well with the ships was not consistent with the wagons. Between the unreliable loading behavior and the small quantity capacity, I didn't feel like it added much to the game.
