I loved Patrican 3, i played it for hours, i have some problems with finding with goods to buy and whith to sell, i think Port Royal was better on this.
Sadly i lost somwhere my old CD with Patrican 3 :-(
I THINK they have poyt royal somewhere too. I liked port Royal, though I always loved the completeness of Patrician 3. :3 Buying and selling goods just takes time to learn the prices. The tutorial is great for getting you started and it still leaves you with plenty to figure out later on yourself.
Ultimately it's upto you, and I can respect that, but I can honestly say hand on heart Patrician 4 will dissappiont you when compared to P3.
I just baught P. IV and am not very happy with it. The only thing I like so far, is that you are able to build your production buildings outside the city wall, which if I recall corectly, want possible in 3.
I just have one question, which will help me decide if I should dump this game.
In Patrician 3 you had more towns. I really miss Königsberg an Memel. thats realy a historic distortion. Can you build them? Is there a addon to include them? If not, then this was wasted money.
P4 grows slower, its more challenging getting to the top ranks, and that is where you get more things to do. Maybe all the P3 fans miss out because they don't bother going that far.
For example you can create all those towns in P4 like Koning and Memel, but later on, and you have to move a lot of things to get them up and going. Lots of interesting challenges imho.
There is so much in P4 that is absolutely nonsense and a pain in the @ss.
It doesn't make sense, that towns that are on the coast cant produce fish. In P3 you had fish and whale-oil in the north, Stettin, Danzig, Lübeck ect. had the option to just produce fish. Here towns that live on the coast of the baltic have to import fish. This is so stupid and unhistoric.
They also should leave the option for building manufactury in each town free and not make it static. If a town has sheep and produces wool, then let them decide if they want to build a manufactury for cloth and then clothes. I find it damned anoying haveing to transport such stuff around. Same with iron-ore. If a region has the resources, then it would be logic that the Mayor and people would get the idea "Hy, we have ore and wood, why dont we start manuacturing iron-goods" - no, they will manufacture shirts and wast their time importing cloth.
Same with beer and mead. Yeah, lets export the honey and import mead, and they guy that produces mead, has to import the honey. Anyone that produces grain, should be able to make beer, at least they could produce their own consumption.
Same with Furs and fabric-production.
Cloth is just pruduced in England and Furs just in the east? Oh please, give me a break.
You have to sail to London so you can produce shirts in Danzig? Idiotic.
Such static resources just make sense with Ore, Salt and Wood.
I found the products in P3 much better. You had Leather and Pottery, If you produceed meat you also got leather.
Introduction of cheese sucks, and it also doesnt make sense, it produced out of nothing and only available in scandinavia. Oh, they didnt know what cheese is in Riga and Germany, they were to stupid for that, eh? You can build cattle and sheep farms, yet the cows and sheep dont give any milk.
This game anoys me more and more. Alsothe makers should learn some Histtory. Giving everyone in Stettin and Danzig polish names is ignorant. The Hanse was a german trading union and those towns were german back then. (That was in P3 better).
P4 is better in sea battle. You dont need to micromanage your crew and give them knives or arm or upgrade ship weapons, Graphic is also nicer.... but in generall, gameplay was in P3 better and made more sense.
Also dont like the trade with mediterean. In P3 you could send out your ships loaded ffull with stuff, and they would sell everything and come back loaded full with spices or wine. If I recall, you were able to chose, how much you wantted from the trader and load it. Here its like a dice roll, you have no controll of your trade anymore.
Thats all very frustrating and anyoying, and makes you want to deinstall it.
