Patrician IV: Steam Special Edition

Patrician IV: Steam Special Edition

Is Patrician 4 worth the buy?
I've been playing Patrician 3 and Port Royale 3 a lot. I didn't buy Pat4 or PR4 because of bad reviews.

The thing is I live in Denmark and therefore the Hansa is more interesting to me than the Caribbean. Furthermore I just returned from a two week trip going around the Baltic Sea and I got to see a lot of buildings relating to the Hansa as well as visiting the Hansa museum in Lübeck.

So is Pat4 better than Pat3 in your eyes? What new things is there is Pat4 (even the small details) beside some graphic upgrade changes? I've heard that the combat system is bad in Pat4, but is that the only bad thing in comparison to Pat3?

Well, I don't mind paying for it, if it is better than Pat3. But I wouldn't like to spend my time playing it at all, if it isn't considered better than Pat3.

What things makes Pat4 better than Pat3 in your eyes?

Nice game IF they let you play. I lost my passwd and they did not mail another one. Other people complain about not getting a passwd at all.

I'm sorry I cannot compare P3 with P4, as I have no experience with P3.

I can only say that I bought P4 in a bookstore and played it quite a bit -- I really liked it. When I built a new desktop I couldn't get the old software to run, so I wishlisted it on Steam and just now purchased it again (on sale) so I can play it again.

The CD key complaint by Howerdlhaufa (referred to by him as "passwd") can be found in your library settings for the game -- it's real easy to recover once you know that it's there, so don't let that deter you.

Thank to for your answer.

You should try out Pat3. Can't say if it's better or not, but I know some people disliked the turn-based sea battles in Pat4. That was the biggest complaint. That's also why I try to find people who can tell me what's better in Pat4 than Pat3.
paT4 is worth it on sale. Main differences are streamlined buy sell windows. PAt3 players probably hate this because they no longer have use for their trading spreadsheets that they spent years compiling. Its buy at 2 bars or higher and sell at 1 or no bars.

Cogs can now go to the 2 inland ports which I think is a shame because not any reason to have a crayor anymore.

I think the towns are less immersive, perhaps because of the higher resolutions. You don't get up close with the villager animations.

Pat 4 does not deserve the low rating it has. Diehard Pat3 players just don't like change and it is a niche game that if a casual gamer buys the game play probably isn't fast enough for them. There won't be a paT5 so might as well get this.

So if it buys and sells automatically, what is there to do in regards to manuel trading?

But those are things that are better in Pat3. What are the advantages of Pat4? Is there anything that you guys consider better in Pat4?
Whats better or not is just opinion. I wasn't referring to auto trading. I'm talking about moving the sliders based on how many bars are in the trade window. That is similar to PR2.

I can tell by how you keep asking the same question that u will not like Pat4, Nothing is better it just is easier to manage. Sounds like you play to manage. Its the players that ruined the PAt and PR series cause they are about the nit pickiest gamers anywhere.

You could just but it and refund before 2 hours if you don't like it.

Yeah, I like the micromanagement aspect of the genre. So guess Pat4 isn't really for me.

Thanks for the tip about refunding before the 2 hour mark is up.

Pat 4 is extremely like port royale 3. I'd say buy.

Only your starting cog can. Which is a bug I think.
Fellow dane here.

I haven't played Pat3, but I have played Port Royale 2 & 3 and also Merchant of Venice I think it was called. Out of all those games Pat4 is by margins the best I have played. In Pat4 you can place buildings in a town where you want them, where as in PR3 there weren't much of city building involved.

In terms of the automatic trade routes, I can confirm they do exist, but I have never gotten them to work. IE, I have never made a profit using them. So I am still sticking to the manual trading.

In terms of turn based sea battles. It has been a while since I played this game, but I don't remember those. Sea battles are realtime.

I only have one major critique of Pat4 steam edition, that is the lack of cloud saves. Progress is pretty damn slow and I have never gotten any further than building a university. The reason is I on multiple occasions have forgotten to make a backup of my saves prior to reinstalling windows.
Currently playing alot of Patrician 3 and I love it. But I haven't gotten into this yet.
