DX11
Why won't the game run on DX11? It says I need DX9 compatible. I'm NOT downgrading.

I don't know about backwards compatible, but the game won't run.

Sounds like you have some troubleshooting to do then, probably educate yourself on computers a lil too

Well, that's not gonna happen, so I guess I just don't play it anymore.

*I haven't tried this personally, just posting what may be useful information:
*I found this on the GOG game page for "Troppico 3 Gold" Edition, (Like you the Graphics Card was DX11 capable and should be backwards compatable with DX9)

Issue:
Error - Videocard does not support DirectX 9.

Cause:
The game may be defaulting to an incompatible screen resolution to your monitor.

Solution:
Force the game into Windowed Mode so you can change the resolution ingame by
Using a tool to decompress the "config.lua" file and change the entry
config.IsFullscreen = 1 to a 0
so it would be
config.IsFullscreen = 0

Where the GOG version falls short is in the installation and troubleshooting instructions.
I have a brand new WIN 7 AMD/ATI laptop that more than exceeds the system requirements for the game. I updated all the drivers and installed the game. The game refused to play due to "video card not supporting DX9". OK, the computer came with DX11, so off to install DX9 for compatibility. Try again, same issue.
Search the GOG help files, nada. Google is my friend, and I was able to determine in a round about fashion that the issue is with the initial install defaulting to displaying full screen at a resolution that is incompatible with the laptop display. The laptop display is 1600x900 (16:9 screen ration, 720p HD compatible) and the default game resolution is higher, but the only way to change the game resolution is from within the game, which will not start because of the resolution issue.
The solution is to modify the config.lua file in the game base directory to run in a window, then change the game resolution to match your laptops native resolution.
Unfortunately, this file is encrypted, however a program was written to decrypt this file, which is documented here: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119569
By running this decrypt program, changing the value for config.IsFullscreen = 1 to 0 (zero) and saving the file, it will allow the program to start with no errors. You can then set the screen resolution to what ever you want within the game and play away!
GOG needs to document this or fix the game install to default to starting up in a windowed mode. Aug 8, 2012
