- working AMD OpenGL drivers are not yet available (there are non-public drivers that already work, so it only depends on AMD release cycle now)
- server infrastructure for planetary data download
- VR issues
and a bunch of smaller usability issues. The release date will be set when we get closer to resolving these issues. Obviously we'd like for it to be as soon as possible, but we can't promise any concrete date at the moment, sorry. For people that come check here because of the B-17 Bloody 100th - even though both projects use the same underlying engine, their releases are completely unrelated.
Also, is this still actually an open-ended sandbox or is it just world-gen \ world-renderer?
why not using Vulkan ?
It's not like it will release this year anyway
Because this project has been announced for over 15 years. If it has taken so long it already to needs find solutions for outdated technology (OpenGL). while this should be doabkle and OpenGL should theoretically work forever, Vulcan might add another 5+ years so don't even think about it.
Yeah same for their Bloody 100th & The Mighty Eight VR titles based on same engine. At least here the devs actually engage in dialogue with us mere mortals….
It’s exactly the same with B-17 The Bloody 100th & The Mighty Eight VR titles that is based on this game engine and supposedly partially developed by the same dev team. It’s been on Steam for years now under “coming soon”, with (apart from one dev blog for the mighy eight VR & 4 screenshot from The Bloody 100th from August last year? zero feedback or any activity from the devs whatsoever, completely ignoring and alienating their own support and community for the game. They released a remaster for the original Mighthy Eight (The mighty eight redux) this January, but not a single of the promised improvements & its actually worse then the original game that is 24 years old lol. And on January when they released it in a horrible not even fit for early access they said they were very close to introduce new B-17 models (to replace the horrific original 24 years old models) but after 6 months, yet to be seen and not as so much a word from the devs lol.
At least this dev team communicates or communicated with its support/community. Not so for the Microprose B-17 game titles. In fact it looks like their only half assed released early acces “remaster” tile (Redux) is now a dead in the water and being torpedos by its paying customers and have disappeared from the face of the Earth like their other B-17 titles, despite claims of a “big update” only to never be heard from again after 6 months rofl 🤣
