Sheild booster vs shield amp?
Was wondering if any of the more experienced players had any experience with this, but I'm wondering, if one is better than the other?

Like, I know you need the booster to use the amp..

But in my last build I built a couple arrays of booster-amp combos.. basically a booster with 3 amps around it in a "T" shape, and it didn't seem to really up my shield recharge rate by much of anything at all...

So I'm wondering if it wouldn't be more effective to just slap in a bunch of boosters and forgo the amps?

Anybody played with this?

Is proximity required? I had just been placing mine wherever I had free spots

the BOOSTERS have to be abutting the AMP but not diagonally. so a max of 3 boosters per amp.

Well, you can use 4, you'll just be vulnerable to fires.

an amp is cheaper and add+1 to each booster pretty much doubling adjacent booster... and yes you ned to be adjacent as written

Can a shield booster recharge multiple shield cells at once? This seems to be a tradeoff between shield capacity, shield recharge, and interior space.

All shield cells contribute to a single total shield strength. All shield boosters (and the shield amplifiers) contribute to a single regeneration number which regenerates the shield strength, defined by the total of the shield cells. Certainly there is a tradeoff as if you spend limited resources (silicon) on one thing, it means you did not spend it on something else.

However there is rarely a tradeoff with space. In this game, you always have more metal to expand your ship than you have silicon with which to make equipment to fill that space. Usually people make the mistake of spending their metal to grow their ship, even when they don't have the silicon using components to fill the space in the ship. That IS a mistake.

The opponets you face in the game depend on your total ship size. They couldn't care less what components are in your ship. So if you've spent all your metal growing the biggest ship you can, but in the ship are a mere handful of shield and weapon components, you are still going to be meeting NPC ships in the weight category equal to your ship, except 'they' will have the gear you do not.

The smartest strategy is to keep your ship small, to only grow it when you have enough silicon to add more shields and weapons, etc., and to only add enough space to contain those new items. Never add ship size just for extra space alone.

Trying to arrange shield boosters and amps in an optimal pattern while still leaving a pathway for the crew to reach them quickly turns into a game of tetris, taking up room in the ship hull that could be used for something else
